Review : Lufthansa First Class, Beijing – Munich, Airbus A380-800

After waiting in this beautiful Air China First Class lounge in Beijing (ironic), we head to the boarding gate for our flight to Munich.

Ground experience

Before we went to the lounge, we went to check-in to get our boarding pass for Manchester. Online check-in is not available from Beijing, which is why we went to the desk. However, we were offered an escort to the lounge, which we accepted.

After passing through the lounge, we embarked for Munich.

Boarding

When we arrived at the gate, the priority and non-priority queues were well filled. We sneak to the side, and the boarding agent seeing our First passes invites us to board in priority.

It looks like the end of the vacations…

Cabin and reception

On A380s, the Lufthansa First cabin is located on the upper deck.

We arrive just as boarding has begun
Priority boarding by escalator!

We go to the appropriate gateway, and are taken care of by the flight attendant in charge of the reception at the gate. We are directed towards our respective seats, the 01A for Bertrand and the 02A for myself.

The First seat in take-off position
The advantage and disadvantage of Lufthansa’s First cabin is that it is very open
At the front of the cabin, a small buffet is set up with this superb Alexandra vintage, and avoids the cabin crew to go back and forth in the galley

The welcome is very warm and our space for the next 11 hours is presented to us. On our arrival, all the First board set is available: comforter, mattress topper, cozy pillow.

A very pleasant cabin despite the (temporary) end of the vacations

However, the rose is not present.

No surprise on the seat controls, it’s more or less the same version as on the way out!

This time, the First cabin will be shared with two other passengers who will occupy the other two window seats on the opposite aisle.

The toilets on board the A380 are very spacious. They occupy the Emirates Shower Spa, located near the staircase that leads to the cockpit.

For First only, of course!
The sink is equipped with its own rose
The immaculate toilets at the beginning of the flight
They are even equipped with a urinal, what a luxury!

Each passenger has a wardrobe (closed with a code) near the door through which we boarded

Very useful space to store clothes and bulky luggage

Before takeoff, a glass of rosé champagne is served to us with some macadamia nuts in a warm cup.

Welcome on board!
Never stay dehydrated, that’s the rule in First
A hot oshibori and a free Wifi card are given to us at the end of the takeoff phase
Ready for a 11h flight to Munich!

Service and catering

Just after passing 10,000 feet, our flight attendant will bring us the menu of delights during this daytime flight to Munich. Note that she will perform the entire service in French

A menu that we will use well during this day flight!
The main meal menu offers 5 choices of starters and 5 choices of main courses… Impressive!
The list of snacks available during the flight is impressive
The cold drink menu is rather traditional
Same thing for hot drinks. Note the large selection of teas and coffees

The wine selection was perfect. Note that the flight attendant offered each time to taste all the options available to facilitate the pairing between food and wine.

The wine list is rather impressive on Lufthansa
Superb selection of champagnes from Laurent Perrier with the Grand Siècle and the Cuvée Alexandra Rosé
No French wines proposed in the selection of white and rosé wines
A selection of high quality red wines
A German dessert wine that I don’t know
Strange to propose an Italian vermouth in the selection of spirits of the month, but so be it.

Just after reaching the cruising altitude, an amuse-bouche is served, with a new glass of Rosé Champagne. Note that this will be the last service of rosé champagne, only two bottles being loaded for the aperitif.

The appetizer served was original and very fresh.
The table is set directly on the tray table, as in any First worthy of the name
No need to choose: On Lufthansa, all starters are served
The service of the caviar is very elegantly done with the cart
The portion of caviar is very generous
I will choose this time the fillet of beef as a main course
The salad accompanying the dish is very original
The cheeses are not of an exceptional quality, due to the fact that we departed from Beijing
A bailey’s is always welcome to ease the digestion

Just after lunch, my flight attendant offers to make my bed so I can take a little nap. I accept this change and take the opportunity to go to the bathroom to freshen up.

My bed is now ready for a nap

Just before landing, I ask to test some options of the catering menu. A new oshibori on a plate is brought to me.

The Oshibori is served on a plate, like on most 5* airlines
A double espresso is served to facilitate the work
The soup is very light, and the Cuvée Alexandra goes perfectly with it

A very fine service on this flight. Perfect!

Arrival and disembarkation

We arrive in Munich on time. Our aircraft being in touch, we disembark by footbridge and head for the connecting route.

No escort in First on LH Group airlines

Bottom line

The flights in First follow one another and are very similar: another excellent experience on this flight in A380 between Munich and Beijing, with a perfect service and excellent catering.
