Hermitage Jakarta: great comfort and colonial charm

New lightning passage in Jakarta for one night because of a long connection. After the modern and excellent Keraton at the Plaza and Westin Jakarta, change of style with the smaller, confidential and authentic Hermitage Jakarta.

The Hermitage Jakarta is indeed a member of Tribute Portfolio, a chair that promotes independent hotels and preserves their authenticity without forcing them into a brand logic that would kill their identity.

Arrival and check-in

The trip from the Jakarta airport took about half an hour, but the information was not worth much. As soon as you have to reach the city center, the traffic is highly unpredictable and I think I was lucky. In Jakarta always take at least one hour as a safety margin.

Having proceeded to a mobile-check-in from the application I only had to retrieve my key at the counter, not without the staff having unwound me the traditional welcome protocol. By the way, because of the loyalty program, my standard room was transformed into a suite.

Global view of the hotel.

Contrary to the two above-mentioned hotels, here it is traditional and an old building of colonial style.

And, logically, the interior style is the same.

My Suite at the Hermitage Jakarta

I am accompanied to my suite. In this style of building, you shouldn’t have expected miracles in terms of size…and there were no miracles. However, the gain in space compared to a standard room seems significant and it nevertheless adds to the comfort.

The room is all in a row. As soon as you open the door you find yourself in the lounge area.

Then you arrive directly in the room itself.

And directly you finally find the bathroom.

The room is all in length where the three spaces lounge, night and bath follow one another without any separation.

Everything is very well designed, and the modern blends with the old with a certain charm. Not very big for a suite but very pleasant and authentic.

Not much to add, we thus finish by the video visit.

The Hermitage pool: a haven of peace.

On the roof of the hotel there is a very pleasant outdoor swimming pool that the noise of the street cannot reach.

Also very pleasant at night.

The hotel has a gym and a spa which I did not try.

Next to the pool there is a bar and a beautiful terrace to enjoy a drink.

The view on the city is superb.

The Hermitage does not have a lounge, but platinum clients are offered a small snack at cocktail hour.

Nothing to complain about and the cocktails, without being high mixology were more than correct.

I will also dine at the hotel’s restaurant in the evening.

A rather classical “local” menu with some more European inspired dishes.

The service is fast and although it is not great gastronomy, it is good and even rather fine.

The next day I will leave the hotel in the early morning by checking out on my phone via the spg app. The car I had reserved was already there for a smooth departure.

End of this very short but pleasant stay.

Verdict: a little authenticity is always nice

For my previous stays in Jakarta, I had chosen much more modern properties which, while offering excellent service, corresponded to a rather uniform international style that could have been found in any city in Asia or the world.

Here an excellent service and a more authentic charm do not hurt from time to time. Here an excellent service and a more authentic charm that’s very pleasant.
