Keraton at the Plaza Jakarta: luxury and sobriety at an affordable price

Having to spend a night in Jakarta because there were no more flights to Bangkok in the evening after my flight from London arrived, I decided to stay at the Keraton at the Plaza, a Luxury Collection hotel.

Having traveled First Class on Garuda Indonesia, the trasfer to the hotel by limousine was included in the service, so something I did not have to worry about.

Access to the hotel

The hotel is as its name suggests located at “The Plaza” which is none other than the name of an office and shopping tower in downtown Jakarta. It’s not the next door, especially to spend only one night and leave early the next day but the poverty of the hotel offer in Soekarno-Hatta did not leave me much choice. We shall put 45 minutes to join the hotel, 30 minutes to make the journey in the other direction the next morning but a margin of error is always to foresee in the Indonesian capital. Two weeks later, it will take me 1h30 to reach the city center.

As always in Indonesia any car approaching a hotel is inspected before approaching it. No photo of the hotel….arrived at night and at the bottom of the said tower I can’ t say that I have the best angle.

The reception

As soon as I get out of the car the bellman takes my suitcase and I go to the check-in area. This is done comfortably seated with a welcome cocktail.

The lobby exudes a discreet and not at all ostentatious luxury. I appreciate it.

I am the only customer at check-in so it goes very fast.

Having made a “mobile check-in” on the SPG application all the formalities are already done: I only have to sign in and get the room key which was already ready. It’s going so fast that the protocol of the loyalty program is a bit overlooked. No thanks, no mention of my status or my membership in the program, nor will there be an upgrade (I had checked: “standard” suites were available though).

Grand Deluxe Room at Keraton Jakarta

I am escorted to my room. I took a Grand Deluxe which is, in fact, the smallest room level available in the hotel.

I enter my room and pass the dressing room and the bathroom on my left to go directly to the main room. I’ll see the rest later.

I find a small lounge area.

On the right is the bedroom area with the bed.

And at the back an office area.

Behind me I find an access to the through bathroom that joins the entrance hallway.

It is as big as it is beautiful.

Two widely spaced sinks.

A toilet that will delight the fans of Japan…

As far as bath products are concerned, it’ s Remède, which I’m used to find at St Régis. On the other hand, products are available in small quantities: not enough to stock up to take home as it is sometimes the case.

To be honest I checked the room type because it looked like an upgrade that they forgot to mention…but no. It is indeed the “basic” room of the hotel which is 65m2.

Very pleasant bedding, floor-to-ceiling windows, electrically operated curtains from the bed, very functional office space. Absolutely nothing to say: I am delighted. The feeling of space is very pleasant.

Panoramic view by night.

And by day….

The meal in flight having been relatively copious I will not go to the restaurant in the hotel but will make stopover at the lounge for a snack.

The traditional video to finish.

An excellent salon at Keraton at the Plaza

I arrive at the end of the service and the place is almost empty. Elegant setting and spacious enough.

Lounge - Keraton at the Plaza

Rare for a hotel lounge: no self-service. A menu is given to you and the service is done at the table.

I will choose some snacks accompanied by a red wine.

The service is fast, the dishes well presented, appetizing and very tasty.

The staff will come back several times to ask me if I want anything else. Really an excellent service.

It is time to go to bed, tomorrow another flight awaits me in the morning.

Fitness room and swimming pools: quality facilities

Waking up early in the morning does not mean abandoning all hygiene. The day will start in the fitness room of the hotel.

As more and more hotels are doing, the Keraton at The Plaza has stopped relegating its gym to the back of a basement and instead offers a spacious area with a clear view of the city. Well equipped, very bright and I really like these fake parquet floors that give warmth to this type of installation.

So of course you can find biggerlike at the W Barcelona for example, but it’ s quite large for a hotel.

Then a few laps in the hotel pool. I find the pool right next to the gym. Efforts have been made on the design: three of its sides are transparent, making it look like an aquarium.

For a hotel pool, which is indoor and on a floor, it is of good length.

Only one complaint: the water is a little too cool for my taste.

At its end, it leads to a terrace that overlooks…another pool, located below.

This pool is unfortunately not accessible to hotel guests. It is allocated to the occupants of apartments located in the same building and whose services are operated by the hotel.

Long live the mobile check-out

When I leave my room I use the SPG application to check out. One click and no need to come back to the reception. The car I reserved with the concierge the day before to take me to the airport is there.

Conclusion: a perfect but too short experience at the Keraton at the Plaza Jakarta.

In the end, a flawless experience but a too short stay that did not allow me to fully enjoy the property nor all its services. A real regret as Keraton at The Plaza seems to be very good on the soft and hard product. At 150 euros a night it’s not worth going without.
