I’m having a great time on a business trip in New York, when I get a call from a friend who has a pied-à-terre in the city and asks if I’d like to have a drink with him at the Centurion Lounge, a space dedicated to American Express Centurion members and located in the newly erected One Vanderbilt tower near Grand Central. Of course, I accept!
The concept
The concept is that of a country club reserved for American Express Centurion members, which also features an adjoining restaurant bookable by American Express Platinum members.
The setting
The setting is simply magnificent, the decor sublime and the view… It couldn’t be better.
The menu
For this moment, we chose to sip a few cocktails with an impressive view of midtown.
The cocktails
I’ll be having a Negroni, which will be excellent. You’d expect nothing less from a place like this.
The service
The service is absolutely perfect, attentive without being oppressive.
The atmosphere
The atmosphere is magical, calm without being morbid. We’ll have a very pleasant chat.
Bottom line
An excellent place to have a drink without having to wait, and in an extremely cosy atmosphere. You’d get used to it…
