The Moxy Roissy CDG is still a convenient and affordable option when you want to sleep near the Paris airport, but its service remains a bit of a drawback.
I had been quite critical of the property during my previous stays, which led me to exile myself to the neighboring Courtyard on a regular basis, but as I like to vary, I decided to give it another chance.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find a summary of articles about this trip to Porto.
Booking
I booked a standard room (there aren’t many different types of room at Moxy anyway) for 145 euros a night. Not for the faint of heart and a bit expensive for a Moxy, but elsewhere it was even more expensive.
Location
The hotel is located in the airport area, between Terminals 1 and 2, a 5-minute walk from the Parking PR station of the CDGVal automatic shuttle, which takes you to either terminal in 10 minutes.
Arrival and check-in
I arrive by Uber and make my way to reception, which as always at Moxy is actually the bar in the center of the lobby, which is in fact a large, lively living space.
The lobby is packed.
The welcome is very cordial, the loyalty program protocol is followed to the letter (rare in this hotel) and for once I’m not asked for a credit card imprint, which I find logical given that it’s already in their systems via the application.
I quickly make my way to my room.
The room
It’s typical Moxy: hyper-standardized, sober, efficient.
The bed is normally comfortable, but at this price you can’t expect the bedding of a St Regis.
There’s a shelf that doubles as a desk, with a footstool for sitting. Minimalist, but in line with the chain’s standards. Handy for dealing with a few emails, but too uncomfortable to work at length.
The bathroom is simple and functional, with a sink and shower.
Unlike my last stay, the sink is immaculately clean.
That’s it. Nothing exceptional, but a solid, clean product.
Bar and restaurant
As we have seen, the bar is at the center of the lobby, which has been designed as a pleasant living space. There’s no restaurant to speak of, but a range of snack-type dishes at the bar. If I’m not mistaken, these are not dishes cooked on the premises, but prepared meals reheated in steam ovens.
During my last stay, the service was abysmal, so I wonder what I’ll find this time.
I take a seat at the bar, which has emptied out a little since I checked in. There’s a waiter and a waitress who ignore me as if I were transparent. There are empty plates and glasses all over the bar and the room, as if no one wanted to deal with them.
After 10 minutes they finally deign to take my order: falafels and an asian burger.
The staff aren’t very energetic, but at least they’re friendly, which is already a big change.
My burger arrives after a long wait.
It’s not fine dining, but it’s good and it fills the stomach.
I’ve been waiting for over an hour and they’ve just cleared the empty plate next to me.
I wait and wait and just as I’m ready to fall asleep on the bar my falafels finally arrive.
The yoghurt sauce is missing! I call the waitress back and she tells me there’s none left. However, without me having anything to say, she apologizes for the wait and tells me that her colleague had forgotten the order and that she’s offering me the falafels as an apology.
We can’t say that the service as such has improved, but for once the servers are very pleasant, which is already a clear improvement. Let’s console oneself as best we can…
The bar empties and I grab another beer, which arrives without a wait.
Nothing exceptional, but a less catastrophic experience than the last time and, above all, super pleasant people, which in the end makes it possible to forgive a lot of things.
Facilities
The hotel has a very small gym equipped with the bare minimum, which I won’t be using this time.
Service
Still not really remarkable, but making clear progress both at the reception and at the bar. Considering where they started from, it wasn’t difficult.
Check-out
I’ll check out on the mobile app and leave the hotel without having to go through reception again.
Bottom line
A very decent stay in a hotel from which I didn’t expect much but which has made some progress since my last stay.
