On the first evening of my New York stay, a colleague suggested dinner to get to know each other better, and chose the restaurant Verōnika located in the house of photography, Fotografiska, which I had already visited with my wife two years earlier. I just didn’t know there was a restaurant there, but it was an opportunity to revisit this pleasant place.
The concept
The concept is the same as that of a good Parisian brasserie, but with New York prices! In any case, the food is refined and the menu very appealing.
The setting
The setting is quite simply sumptuous, the building an architectural success, the only complaint being the lack of light in the dining room. But this is inevitably linked to the building’s stone architecture.
The menu
The menu is quite simple, bistro-style, but with a few gastronomic items. In particular, there’s a risotto menu.
The meal and the dishes
I’ll have just one dish, a lobster omelette, which is good but not exceptional.
The wine list, on the other hand, is of very good quality, even if the prices are not soft at all. I’ll start with a glass of champagne, then we’ll have a few glasses with my colleague who started the evening with cocktails.
The service
The service is good, but the attention to detail is sometimes perfectible. The proof is that we serve ourselves in the checkroom, since no one was there when we left the restaurant.
The atmosphere
The atmosphere is what you’d expect in a place like this: slightly chilly, with lots of people passing judgment on others. But that’s New York City!
Bottom line
A good meal, but the prices are outrageous, and the service could be better.
