Off to Porto

Having just returned from a delightful stay in Sicily, it’s already time to set off on new adventures, and my next destination is Porto. I’ve always been drawn to this city, but up until now I’d mainly been to Lisbon, and my only memory of Porto is of a connection on a flight of sad memory on which TAP had demonstrated its mediocrity.

Choice of destination

Not much to say: I wanted to go to Porto and I went to Porto! On the other hand, the timing was right for me: the weather is fine in May, but it’s not too hot, which is important for sightseeing, especially as Porto requires a certain amount of physical effort.

Flights

This time I’m putting my trust in Air France-KLM again. My last experiences with them in business class on medium-haul flights really didn’t live up to my expectations (a Paris-Gothenburg flight) but I’m still giving the product a chance, telling myself that it was Hop by Air France and that the aircraft, an Embraer, may not give the best possible experience, if only because of its seat.

After all, any reason is a good reason to get motivated.

However, my appetite for risk has its limits: I’ll pay for my ticket with my points.

To spice things up a bit, I’ll be flying Paris-Amsterdam-Porto on the outbound leg (one Air France and one KLM) and Porto-Paris on Air France on the return leg, which will give me a chance to try out both airlines, as I haven’t flown KLM in ages.

The hotel

Gone are the days when only a Sheraton represented Marriott in Lisbon: now there are several hotels on offer, including the Renaissance Lapa, which I chose for this stay. A little off-center, but very good value for money for this brand-new hotel.

The night before my departure I’ll be staying at the Moxy CDG, which we know well but for which satisfaction is often uncertain.

Restaurants

I’ll be building up gradually: first a small, simple restaurant (Gruta), then a typically Portuguese brasserie-style restaurant (Cantinho do Avillez), then a little more gastronomic (Cafeina) and finally a Michelin-starred restaurant (In Diferente).

Bottom line

All this gives us the following program, which will give rise to these articles:
