Domestic ITA “Hangar Lounge” in Rome: very good indeed

The ITA Airways lounge dedicated to domestic and Schengen flights in Rome offers a very high quality of service, which contrasts somewhat with the in-flight experience so far.

So here I am, only one flight away from returning to Paris and with what I hope will be the most interesting flight of this trip. But in the meantime, despite the delay in my flight from Catania, I still have a few hours to kill, which I’m going to spend in the ITA lounge at Rome Fiumicino airport.

At the bottom of the page you’ll find a summary of the articles about this stay in Sicily.

Lounge location

I didn’t find it very well signposted, and I walked and wandered so much to find it that I’d be hard pressed to give you its exact location.

Let’s just say it’s in the part of the terminal where the many restaurants and stores are located, on the first floor, which seems to be well placed when you arrive at the security checkpoints, but is actually quite far from the boarding gates, which means you have to do a bit of walking, especially if you have a connecting flight, as you have to walk there and back.

Eligibility

Here are the current eligibility rules common to all ITA lounges, although they will of course change shortly when ITA joins the Lufthansa Group.

The lounge is accessible to ITA Airways passengers travelling in business class on a flight operated by ITA, to executive premium members of the ITA Airways frequent flyer program, to Skyteam business class passengers on a flight operated by ITA Airways, and to Skyteam Elite Plus members if they are connecting to an international flight.

Layout and design

The living room consists of a large room with a metal structure that gives meaning to its name “Hangar”.

There are different types of very comfortable armchairs, some more suitable for seclusion.

Tables more dedicated to dining.

High tables.

And in the middle there’s a gigantic bar and the buffet.

A very pretty and pleasant lounge, despite its size, which could be synonymous with noise and bustle.

Catering

As for drinks, you’re invited to ask one of the bartenders. At least you get real espressos….

The bar is sponsored by Campari, which offers the opportunity to propose a cocktail menu.

The buffet features salads, fruit and vegetables.

Charcuterie and cheese.

Hot dishes include soup and, of course, pasta.

Finally, a consistent, quality offer, even if I would have appreciated a little more choice in hot dishes.

Facilities

The lounge has a toilet but no shower.

Atmosphere

A little noisy at rush hour, but very reasonable and bearable given the traffic.

Bottom line

A good-quality, comfortable lounge that does a pretty good job for medium-haul flights.
