The ITA lounge at Catania airport is neither particularly large nor well placed, and offers a limited range of food and drink, but it’s not unpleasant and has the merit of existing.
It’s time to head back to France, so here I am at Catania airport, catching my first flight of the day to Rome. It was an opportunity for me to rediscover the ITA lounge, which I had already visited during my Alitalia days, but which had left no lasting impression on me.
At the bottom of the page you will find a summary of the articles about this trip to Sicily.
Lounge location
The lounge is located at the far end of the terminal, before you pass through security. This is not ideal, as it means you have to anticipate your departure without really knowing how long you’ll have to wait, even though, since you’re in the lounge, you have access to the priority queue.
But as Catania can sometimes be very messy, you’re never safe from a nasty surprise.
Eligibility
Here are the current eligibility rules common to all ITA lounges, although they will of course change shortly when ITA joins the Lufthansa Group.
The lounge is accessible to ITA Airways passengers travelling in business class on a flight operated by ITA, to executive premium members of the ITA Airways frequent flyer program, to Skyteam business class passengers on a flight operated by ITA Airways, and to Skyteam Elite Plus members if they are connecting to an international flight.
Layout and design
Once past the reception desk, you arrive in a small room with comfortable armchairs.
There’s a second row behind.
A minimalist workspace. This is the only part of the lounge where you’ll find electrical outlets.
And that’s it!
It’s really not very big, and there are no windows, but that’s probably in line with its daily occupancy.
On the other hand, the change of furniture and colors that accompanied the rebranding is quite successful.
Catering
The buffet is located in the first part of the lounge after the reception area. Given the size of the lounge, it takes up 75% of its length.
The pastries are not bad at all.
There are cakes and jam.
A machine for hot drinks.
And fridges for cold drinks and some fruit.
I told you it was minimalist.
Facilities
The lounge has toilets, but I don’t remember any showers.
Bottom line
Neither ugly nor great, not ideally placed but with good pastries, a lounge that doesn’t make you dream but would miss if it didn’t exist.
