The Four Points by Sheraton Sesimbra is a very pleasant hotel, like new, close to the seafront in Sesimbra. Simple, very pleasant and moderately priced, the staff are also very pleasant.
While I spent two consecutive weekends in Lisbon, I took refuge in Sesimbra during the week between them. I know Lisbon well enough not to spend any more time there, and hotel prices had risen so much in the Portuguese capital that I had the choice between a slightly boring stay at almost affordable prices (for the quality offered) or something very good at almost Parisian prices. Why not for a weekend, but for a longer stay it wasn’t worth it.
Last year at the same time I had already been to Cascais at the excellent Sheraton, then to the more luxurious Penha Longa on the outskirts of Sintra. There was no question of “déjà vu” on this trip, so I opted for Sesimbra, just under an hour from Lisbon, where I found this little Four Points by Sheraton.
Sesimbra was originally a fishing port, but over the years has become a very popular resort. At the height of summer, expect the city to be crowded and even difficult to get to by car, and finding a seat at the restaurant to be complicated…exactly what I hate. In March, on the other hand, you’ll find the city virtually empty and very quiet, and very reasonable hotel prices – just what I like.
You will find at the bottom of the page all the articles about this trip to Portugal.
Booking
I booked 4 nights a fortnight before my arrival at around 65 euros a night: 250 euros a week, I take it straight away. For the record, that’s the price of my room in high season, but only for one night…
I booked a standard room, the hotel’s entry-level room.
The day before my arrival I’ll noice in the Marriott app an upgrade to a Deluxe room and then, in the morning, to a Deluxe room with a balcony and pool view.
Location
The Four Points Sesimbra is located in the upper part of the city, guaranteeing greater peace and quiet than the seafront, as well as unobstructed views. On the negative side, you’ll need to walk a bit to get to the beach and have good legs to get back up.
Check-in
I arrive by Uber from Lisbon around noon. The hotel consists of two modern buildings separated by a small parking lot.
Main building:
The annex building :
I arrive at the beautifully decorated reception area.
The receptionist welcomes me with a big smile. The formalities are quickly completed and she informs me that since breakfast is included in my room rate, as a Titanium Elite customer, I will automatically receive bonus points.
She offers to walk me to my room. It’s so convivial that in her eagerness she’ll skip over the recognition of the loyalty program and the presentation of the facilities, but I won’t hold that against her.
The room
It is located in the annex building, where most of the hotel’s activities take place. Swimming pool, bar, restaurant, gym, it’s all here. The first building apparently contains only the reception and standard rooms.
In fact, the annex building is on a slope: you enter at the top and walk down to your room.
The bedroom opens onto a hallway that leads to the bathroom on the side and to the bedroom in front.
At first glance it looks nice and new.
The bathroom has a washbasin and shower. Simple but pretty, clean and functional.
Then the bedroom.
Very pretty!
The bed, very comfortable for a hotel of this range and a large closet next to it.
A desk, very pleasant to work near the bay window, something appreciable when more and more hotels do not offer to work in correct conditions.
A cosy lounge area.
The mini bar is sparsely stocked, but at least there’s stuff in it (increasingly rare, too) and its contents are free!
The glass door opens onto a pleasant balcony with some greenery. There’s a shaded area and a sunny one – well thought out!
From here you have a superb view of the pool and the surrounding countryside.
I will go out for a walk in the afternoon and when I come back I will find a welcome gift on the table:
What can I say? For 65 euros a night, it’s an excellent deal. Everything looks new and I was wondering when the hotel was built. I’ll learn that the hotel is over 30 years old and was taken over at the time of the COVID and is now being renovated block by block.
Quiet, large room, beautifully decorated, comfortable bedding: absolutely nothing to complain about.
And to finish the visit in video.
Bar and restaurant
The hotel has a bar and a restaurant. Both are located in the same room, on the ground floor and by the pool.
Bar
Very pleasant, great welcome, very professional barman (Flavio?).
Restaurant
Room in one piece, quite large, but nicely decorated and warm.
A simple, international menu, but impeccably presented and tasty dishes.
Facilities
The hotel has a large outdoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Given the season, I didn’t take advantage of it, but I did see a few brave souls taking the risk. A little more people to enjoy the deckchairs in the sun.
The gym, meanwhile, is moderately equipped but too small: it’s unusable for three or more people. During my stay, someone would always come with their trainer at the same time as me, and I’d have to wait over an hour to get access to the equipment I was interested in.
Service
Really lovely staff.
Check-out
I’ll do my check-out on the mobile app without having to go through the reception again.
Bottom line
At this price, it’s an excellent deal for a mid-range hotel! A very pleasant off-season stay, which I love.
Would I pay €250 in high season? I don’t think so, but that’s not the hotel’s fault and I think other, less pleasant hotels are much more expensive.
