Review : Marriott Lisbon

As part of a weekend with friends in Lisbon, I decided to innovate compared to the classic Sheraton reviewed by Bertrand and visited several times by myself to give a chance to the Marriott, a little off-center but that I wanted to try.

A look back at this stay.

Booking

I proceeded to book this hotel using the Marriott Bonvoy app as usual. I chose one of the cheapest properties this time, for about 80€ a night, using my business’ corporate code.

The other hotels were all above 150€ per night, a price I find exaggerated for Lisbon in the middle of winter.

Arrival

A few days before my arrival, I see in the application an upgrade to the Executive Suite, the highest level before the Presidential Suite.

The lobby has been renovated
The staircase to the restaurant and the pool is quite majestic

I arrive in Lisbon by the last Air France flight from Paris Charles-de-Gaulle (operated by Joon), and go to the hotel with an Uber. After this 10 euro trip, I arrive at the property in less than 15 minutes.

The check-in is deserted on my arrival
The lobby offers many waiting and/or working areas

The check-in is deserted and I am quickly taken care of. Since I used the Mobile check-in, my keys are ready. I am nevertheless asked to give an imprint of my credit card (for no reason, since it is checked-in in the application), and to confirm my Ambassador benefit. So I’ll skip the breakfast, since it’s already offered at the Club Lounge, and choose the points as a welcome gift.

The lobby is well redecorated
The convenience store located behind the reception desk (yes, minibars have been removed from the rooms throughout the chain)

Room

The Executive Suite assigned to me is located on the top floor of the property. On the same floor is the crew lounge, the hotel that hosts most of the crews in transit in Lisbon.

Funny this crew lounge on the suites’ floor
Lisbon or Las Vegas Casino?
The view from the room is magnificent

Even though this is the highest category of room before the presidential suite, these suites have not yet benefited from the renovations that have taken place in the other rooms, unfortunately: it’s old and it shows, already with the vile green carpet.

The private toilets of the lounge area

The entrance leads to a large lounge, equipped with a sofa, armchairs and a coffee table. A desk is also installed in this room, and a welcome gift has been left for me. The decoration is terribly old-fashioned.

The entrance to the suite, very eighties
Beautiful view on this despicable carpet
Lounge area of the suite
The beautiful welcome service left for me (Fisherman’s Friends are mine 🙂

In the other room is the very comfortable king size bed, but the decoration is the same.

I slept like a baby in this bed

The bathroom is accessible from the bedroom. It is rather spacious, the toilets are located in a separate area, but the facilities reveal their age both by their taste and by their condition which leaves something to be desired.

Access to the bathroom from the bedroom
The toilet area within the bathroom
The style of the bathroom is clearly dated
The bathtub does not allow you to lie down comfortably
The shower is quite small, and you can easily hit yourself while using it

To finish, a video tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel is equipped with a fitness room that I would not have the opportunity to visit during my stay.

It also has a small outdoor pool, but despite the mildness of the Lusitanian winters, it will be a bit too cold for me (I don’t know, by the way, if this pool is heated).

The outdoor pool that I will not use

Club Lounge

I will only use the Club Lounge as a dining service in the hotel. This club is located on the first floor of the property, as is often the case at Marriott (in the Sheraton for example, it is often on the top floor).

Access to the club lounge from the hotel lobby

The reception was simply exceptional at the Club Lounge. Without me understanding how, the manager of the Club immediately called me by name, guided me to the table and came to chat with me several times to find out how my stay was going, and to give me tips for visiting Lisbon.

Pathway to the interior of the lounge from its entrance

I especially enjoyed the Club Lounge at breakfast.

The interior space of the Club Lounge is elegantly decorated
Drinks are available 24 hours a day

I sat on the beautiful terrace which is equipped with tables decorated with azulejos, the famous blue Portuguese ceramics.

A nice way to end the breakfast than this little tour on the terrace

The buffet is very comprehensive, with hot and cold items.

A coffee machine is of course available
Overview of the buffet offered at the Club Lounge
The breads are of good quality and diversity is there
Some well-made pastries
The fruits and cheeses were excellent
The excellent smoked salmon
Some yoghurts and dairy products
Pooridge well kept warm
Quality scrambled eggs
And the bacon, placed on bread to absorb the fat
I love this pancake maker!

An excellent experience at the lounge.

Departure

The departure formalities were simple, and carried out from my mobile with the Mobile check-out features.

Bottom line

Perfect service, but a complete renovation is needed.
