Nomada in Lisbon is a good Japanese fusion restaurant. Affordable at first glance, the bill can quickly rise if you’ve got a bit of an appetite.
Initially, this dinner wasn’t on my agenda, as I should have been back in Paris that evening. But since TAP is a joking airline that’s never too far away from something stupid, not only was my return flight canceled, but they also booked me on the wrong day (and even though the mistake was theirs, they couldn’t rebook me twice…). In short, I had to find a restaurant at the last minute (without any compensation from the airline, of course…). Having spent more than a week wandering between gastronomic, bistronomic and typical Portuguese restaurants, I was keen for a change of scene, and this Japanese restaurant with its good reputation (and not far from my hotel) caught my eye.

The concept of the restaurant
The restaurant presents itself as a Japanese fusion cuisine restaurant, i.e. a blend of Asian and European influences.
The setting
Modern and sleek, with a touch of design. Dark but not overly so.
There was obviously another room behind, noisier and livelier from what I could see, but I didn’t investigate any further.
Restaurant menu
Only available online (at least at the time), it mixes well-known Japanese specialties (sushi, sashimi) with a few more European dishes, and some that are halfway between the two.
Honestly, I found the Japanese influence really predominant and the fusion side less marked than at Yakuza in Paris, or a fortiori TO restaurant still in Paris or Kaifo in Goteborg.

I arrive and am greeted and seated at my table. No menu: a QR code to flash to access the online menu.
The waiter (who will be very helpful and adorable) insists on serving me in French to help him improve. He recommends different dishes, I ask about quantities and trust him to put together an assortment of gunkam in addition to a fairly light dish of sushi.
Here we go!
We start with a Korean Puri (beef tartar, Korean chili paste, ginger, egg yolk and lemongrass).
Beautifully presented, you eat it in two bites.
It’s good, fresh and light.
Then comes the chicken goyzas.
Good but is it really that much better than Sushi Shop? Well, I’m exaggerating a bit.
All in all, a pair of appetizers that are pleasant but light and quickly eaten.
For the main course I took an assortment of sushi and, not reassured by the portions served, asked the waiter to recommend some gunkams to go with it.
Not much to say about the sushi: it’s good and that’s it.
Let’s see the rest…
– Foie gras and tuna gunkan
– Hamachi nigiri (sliced hamachi on rice, with wasabi kizami and truffled ponzu)
• Mexican roll
– Salmon Nigiri
Still a cut above what came before, especially the foie gras and hamachi, which were truly original, with personality and taste. The rest was more ordinary.
And a crème brulée for dessert.
Nice with the cinnamon biscuit and ice cream.
In the end, a good meal, not exceptional but very correct, which was a change from my experiences of the last few days, and with excellent service.
On the other hand, is it worth 100 euros to take enough dishes so as not to be hungry when you leave? No. It’s not a scam like Yakuza, but still…
The service
Really good with a very pleasant waiter who was very kind to advise me.
Bottom line
A very decent meal until you get the bill.
