For our third day in the Dubai metropolis, we chose to visit the major attraction of the moment, which will be in place for 6 months at the end of 2021-beginning of 2022: Expo 2020, the famous universal exhibition which takes place every 4 years, and which had to be postponed because of the epidemic of COVID-19.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
Reservation and planning
The reservation of tickets for Expo 2020 was made on the ad hoc site. Nevertheless, having travelled on Emirates, we were able to benefit from two free tickets, which we enjoyed.
The problem is rather the planning of one’ s day, which takes an infinite amount of time: we had to print the map, use the app to select the pavilions to visit, in short, it will take you a few hours.
But we have prepared a small selection for you to download on TravelGuys to simplify your life.
Location
The EXPO 2020 site is located about 20 kilometers south of Downtown Dubai, around Dubai World Central Airport, which will eventually replace DXB.
We chose Uber to get there and back. On the way back, a rather ingenious queuing system is in place to catch the first available Uber.
The site opens at 10am and closes at 10pm and believe me, you won’t get bored!
Attractions and visits
We arrived shortly before 10am on site. It is possible to enter the site before the opening time of the pavilions, but there is absolutely nothing to do. So we started the visits at 10 am.
Alif – Mobility Pavilion
Honestly one of the most successful pavilions, which takes you through the technological developments that have brought transportation to its current form, and the innovations that will take us further tomorrow.
France Pavilion
Very disappointing, and not at all didactic. One has the impression to enter in a very boring and a little cheap museum. The store and the catering will make you cry.
Thailand Pavilion
Honnêtement, l’un des pavillons de pays que j’ai préféré. And well designed for families because very it was playful.
Belgium pavilion
As for Thailand, very graphic and didactic, and which reflects well the Belgian cultural heritage around comics.
Poland Pavilion
Beautiful architecturally, but I had a hard time understanding the concept around this wooden mobile.
Korea Pavilion
Big disappointment. It is certainly architecturally unique but the journey around augmented reality is, for me, a big flop.
Hungary Pavilion
Nice surprise, with a very successful theme around geothermal energy. And the restaurant was to die for, that’s where we took a lunch break.
Malaysia Pavilion
Funny enough cultural show, but inside rather propagandist.
Fountains
The facilities around the water are quite playful, and attract families. Nice to relax with the sound of water.
Al Wasl Plaza
The central place of EXPO 2020, with conference cycles. We will not stay there long.
Saudi Arabia Pavilion
This pavilion is quite massive, but I was curious to see what it offers. Focused on tourism, it first presents the beautiful landscapes of the country, before exposing its vision of the future … Which I invite you to observe in detail, it is very telling!
Emirates Pavilion
One of the most fun… There’s nothing to win but as an aviation enthusiast, it’s great to design your own plane of the future!
USA Pavilion
I personally liked it, even if the course is a bit like Disneyland!
India Pavilion
Very rich, maybe a little too much. Only the first part is interesting with its walls of images, the rest is a little too oriented.
Italy Pavilion
Lame. Shitty.
Terra – Sustainable Development Pavilion
Really well themed and successful.
Singapore Pavilion
A lot of buzz around this all-vegetated pavilion… But for what purpose? It is difficult to understand the purpose.
New Zealand Pavilion
Before visiting this pavilion, we had dinner there and it was perfect!
The pavilion itself is quite small, but themed around water and very relaxing.
United Arab Emirates Pavilion
Probably the most impressive, but also the most difficult to access with a wait of about an hour each time.
I really liked the mix of tradition and modernity.
Bottom line
A very busy day and a lot of stars in the eyes. I can only encourage you to go, and even several times if possible.
