It looks like we’re returning home. The last leg of the journey that took us to Beijing and Seoul via…Frankfurt and Manchester. We started our day at the very average Air China First Class Lounge in Beijing, had a great flight from Beijing to Munich in First Class on Lufthansa, had a good time in the First Class Lounge in Munich, followed by a short flight to Frankfurt and now we are in the First Class Lounge at the “A” gates in Frankfurt waiting for our flight to Manchester.
Who has access to the lounge?
All passengers flying First on Lufthansa or Swiss or connecting to or from a First flight as well as HON Circle members of the Miles&More frequent flyer program.
Location of the lounge
It is right in the middle of Terminal 1’s “A” zone, at the junction of the 2 branches of the concourse…which can be quite a distance to get to your flight if it’s at a far gate, but at least it’s equidistant from both ends.
But this lounge is not only for the passengers of the “A” gates (Schengen) …. because next to it are the (non Schengen) gates which only offer the First passenger in transit a First/Senator Lounge which does not offer anything more than a business lounge and leaves him disappointed.
The ease of switching from Schengen to non-Schengen at this location makes it better to go to the First Class Lounge in A and then go through police control to catch your flight instead of going directly to the Schengen zone and ending up in the Senator lounge. There is never any waiting and the passage is done in the blink of an eye. This is our strategy for the day, because afterwards we leave in “Z” towards Manchester.
Lounge layout
There are two lounges next to each other: a senator lounge and, on the first floor, the First Class lounge.
Once our “eligibility” is checked in the hall we take an elevator and here we are in the entrance of the lounge where the staff dedicated to the reception and the assistance is standing.
It is not very large, but this must be appropriate for the traffic it receives, as First Class passengers have access to the First Class Terminal, the First lounge at gates “B” and all the Senator lounges of the airport. Moreover we will see very few customers this day there even if the late hour plays can be a little.
Very cozy and comfortable.
And a real restaurant area to eat.
Food
As at the First Class Terminal or the First Class lounge in Munich, the buffet is both rich and of very high quality.
Everything is appetizing but particular praise goes to the cold cuts and the smoked salmon, which are delicious.
There are also hot dishes.
But there is also a very varied menu. We will succumb to the usual Schnitzel.
For those who prefer a drink, the bar is superb.
But you can of course be served in the lounge.
And of course the cigar lounge!
Wine carts are also placed here and there…
Facilities
No bath like in the First Class Terminal but nice showers which will be welcome during this very long day spent in flight and in airports.
Staff and service
Pure Lufthansa: discreet when you don’t need them, and very friendly, helpful and efficient when you do.
Bottom line
An excellent service in this “small” First Class Lounge. As always at Lufthansa, the lounges are impeccably cloned, except for their size, you will find the same service, the same design, all executed without any deviation. Never a bad surprise.
Due to the fatigue of a long flight, we may not have enjoyed it as much as we would have liked, but we were delighted with the comfort and quality of the restaurant and service.
