It was only a few weeks ago that I was telling you about the renovation that happened last year at the W Barcelona. Barely time for excitement and there are already other new features discovered during a recent stay: there is now an indoor pool at W Barcelona as well as a spa reserved for guests.
I was touting the large size of the fitness room. Well if it is still much larger than average and keeps its unobstructed view on the beach. On the other hand it has been “planed” by a few meters in width, which frankly is not a loss. It was too big and it was all wasted space. So it remains as pleasant as ever.
But what was the purpose of the square meters thus recovered?
An indoor pool at the W Barcelona
The answer can be found by walking up a few steps next to the gym. The W Barcelona has a superb pool and a large sun deck, but all of this is far from being usable all year round, hence the legitimate frustration of guests of such a property from October to June.
Requested by a part of the clientele for ages, an indoor pool has finally opened at W Barcelona, on a surface “stolen” partly from the spa and partly from the gym.
Not only is it beautiful, but unlike what many hotels have been complaining about lately, it is heated to a perfectly acceptable temperature.
It also has a good sized Jacuzzi.
And a Spa for the exclusive use of clients
A few meters away, a sign draws my attention:
The W Barcelona has of course a Spa but it suffers from a big problem: given the number of guests in the hotel and the fact that it is very popular with a population outside the hotel it was very difficult to access. Even platinum members who have free access to the “wet zone” often had to make an appointment to find a time slot where there was availability.
Reaching the pool after descending an inclined slope (dangerously slippery for my taste) we find :
– A hammam
– A sauna
– A relaxation zone
All this is very beautiful and it looks fresh. Nothing existed at the time of our last visit in December.
And it’s only accessible to hotel guests: you need a key to unlock the pool/sauna area. A welcome idea to stop depriving customers of a service that is rightfully theirs and offer a year-round swimming option.
And as a bonus gift, since I showed you a studio suite in my last post, here is a second one, configured differently. Same name but in my opinion a smaller lounge and a less beautiful view. To have in mind when you book.
A room that looks good by day ….
…as well as by night…
