Ramsay Kitchen, Boston: Excellent in every way

While we were on a shopping spree in downtown Boston, my wife suggested to have lunch at British chef Ramsay’s Kitchen, a Boston restaurant located in the Mandarin Oriental hotel.

The concept

The concept of Ramsay’s Kitchen is simple: bistro-style cooking with the British chef’s classics.

The setting

The setting is very nice: As it is located within the Mandarin Oriental, the setting is very elegant and a separate bar area extends the restaurant room.

Note that this is also the hotel’s breakfast room.

The menu

The menu features the great classics of the chef’s brasseries, of the same type as Gordon Ramsay’s Bar and Grill in the British capital, which we visited multiple times when we were living in London.

My wife and I chose to have the lunch menu, starter/main course for her and main course/dessert for me, and I had a glass of wine to pair with my main dish.

The meal and the dishes

My wife’s carrot and coriander soup was excellent, perfectly balanced with the crispy mushrooms.

My main course, the Beef Wellington was served with mashed potatoes, and was absolutely perfect, with the beef cooked to perfection and its texture melting in the mouth – the mashed potatoes buttered to perfection and the vegetables cooked beautifully.

My wife’s fish and chips was perfectly breaded.

For dessert, the Toffee Pudding was excellent, even better than in the London restaurants.

The service

The service was just perfect. Our waiter, Tyler, took great care of us.

Admittedly, the beef Wellington took a while to arrive, but that was expected.

The atmosphere

The atmosphere was pleasant, and the noise level moderate.

Bottom line

An excellent lunch, for just over $100 for two people, excluding service. Reasonable, given the location inside the Mandarin Oriental.
