Review : Sheraton Grand London Park Lane

As part of a weekend in the British capital, I booked in this hotel very well located, near Piccadilly. Initially, I had booked in a hotel close to Big Ben, the Sheraton Park Lane being much too expensive. However, a few days before my arrival, the price dropped below £300, which allowed me to make this reservation.

Today’s itinerary

Booking

I made my reservation on the Marriott Bonvoy website, as usual.

I used my business’s corporate code, which allowed me to get almost 50% off the public rate. London is an expensive city, which makes it difficult to find a hotel under £300.

So I made the reservation, which was flexible up to one day before my arrival.

Arrival

The day before I arrived, my room was upgraded to a club room. It’s a little light, but the hotel has very few suites. Still before my arrival, I proceeded to the mobile check-in formalities, inserting my bank data and specifying my arrival time.

I arrive at the hotel shortly after 7 p.m., coming from the St. Pancras International station in metro.

The entrance from Piccadilly is not actually the main entrance, but the entrance to the restaurant and reception rooms. Through this entrance, you have to go to the back to access the reception area and the concierge.

I am taken care of immediately, my reservation is confirmed and my key is given to me for my room, without having to give my bank details. And the upgrade to a Club room is confirmed, as well as my late check-out at 1pm.

Elevator indicators are very retro

Room

My club room was located on the eighth floor of the hotel. Although this is the highest floor, the views are not exceptional because the windows are much smaller than on the lower floors, where the standard and superior rooms are located.

A little attention that always makes you happy

Nevertheless, the room is quite large.

After a large vestibule which constitutes the entrance, and which contains the whole of the elements of closet, here is the night space, made up of a King size bed.

In front of the bed is located the television and the large desk which is equipped with multi-format plugs.

Next to the window, which is quite small, is a table with a large armchair.

On the other side of the closet is the bathroom, which is equipped with both a shower and a bathtub, and which decoration is interesting.

In the end, a very comfortable bed, and a room that does the job, without being exceptional.

The renovation effort is appreciable, and can be seen both in the decoration of the room and in the bathroom equipment.

The in-room catering is also of excellent quality.

Executive Lounge

Like almost all Sheraton hotels, the hotel is equipped with a club lounge. The Club Lounge is located on the first floor of the property, near the elevators.

It is accessible from 6am to 10pm, but does not necessarily serve snacks at all hours.

The space is rather successful, with tables to eat, and armchairs to rest.

A meeting room is even available for 2 hours maximum

Breakfast service

Breakfast is served in the club lounge from 6:30 am to 10:30 am every day. The restaurant offer is quite qualitative, even if there are no à la carte items.

Hot items such as scrambled or poached eggs, bacon or sausage are offered, as well as waffles.

The fresh elements are very qualitative, with good quality cold cuts and various smoked fish. Cold sweet items are also offered, with pastries, yoghurt and fruit.

The whole is rather good, the buffet is well kept, and all this is finally very pleasant. No need to go to a restaurant.

Happy hour service

The Club Lounge Happy Hour is offered from 5:30 to 7:30 pm daily. The beverage service includes of course all soft drinks, but also red and white wines, as well as strong spirits and their mixers.

The service can be done either in self-service or by asking the waiters.

The catering offer is also very qualitative; as a hot dish, a beef filet and potatoes are proposed: Excellent!

As a cold offer, various salads, as well as very qualitative cheese are also proposed.

As for the sweet, excellent homemade cakes are offered for the lounge visitors.

The service is very attentive, and refills are systematic.

Hotel facilities

The hotel is not equipped with a spa. However, it is equipped with a fitness room, located in the basement of the property.

The fitness room is not directly accessible from the elevators that lead to the rooms. This is quite annoying, since you have to walk through the reception in sportswear on the way out, and then in totally sweaty sportswear on the way back! Not really very glamorous, especially for a hotel that clearly displays its class.

The fitness room is quite well equipped with the latest equipment: it is also quite large, but totally blind.

During my various visits, it was never really crowded, it was always easy to get the machine I wanted.

The amenities offered to visitors are quite qualitative with room temperature or cool water, clean towels and different sizes.

Departure

Due to a last minute change of plans, I had to shift my departure from 1pm to 4pm. This was absolutely no problem, using the chat features of the Marriott Bonvoy app. The formalities were simple, as I used the Checkout button from my app.

Receiving the invoice on time is still complex, however, and an interaction via chat was necessary.

Bottom line

The stay in this hotel was really good. Granted, I wasn’t upgraded to a suite, but do you really need one when traveling alone?

The location was excellent, the service was good, and the club lounge was really good.
