Renaissance Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

As part of a weekend in London combined with a professional obligation on Monday, I have to modify my return itinerary, abandon my Eurostar ticket to book an open-jaw London-Lyon via Amsterdam and then Lyon-Paris… with an overnight connection in Amsterdam and Lyon!

Reminder of the itinerary in question:

Today’s itinerary

Booking

I make the reservation on the day of my departure via the Marriott Bonvoy app. There is little choice, the Sheraton Schiphol Airport is fully booked. Too bad, because it is very convenient.

I booked this Renaissance located in the airport area, apparently brand new, for less than 100 € per night.

Arrival

I arrive at Schiphol airport in the late evening. Not knowing the schedule of the shuttle, I try to book an Uber… But just after my order, I see the shuttle coming.

The lobby is a bit of a train station hall

The drive is horribly long for a hotel that is supposed to be in the airport area. After a lot of driving, I arrive about 15 minutes after my departure from the airport.

The lobby of the hotel, somewhat empty

The check-in procedure is very fast. Surprisingly, there is no special welcome for me, even though I am an Ambassador member. No upgrades are offered. I am asked if I want to have breakfast. I refuse because I have to be at the airport at 6am.

Rather pleasant common areas near the reception
And the decoration, contemporary, is very nice

Room

The standard room assigned is located on the 1st floor of the property. It is a good size for a standard room and is well equipped.

The decoration is ultra-minimalist
A brand new coffee machine, but no water to feed it and an empty minibar

The bathroom is very contemporary and has a shower, which I prefer. The products of the Renaissance chain are of rather good quality.

The very spacious bathroom sink
The shower is also spacious and with a good pressure
The toilet is not separate from the bathroom

The bed is also comfortable.

Note the old-fashioned clock radio on the right

The problem is that no water bottle is present, and I am thirsty. I would have to settle for tap water in a plastic cup. Very premium!

The office is very comfortable

Hotel facilities

The hotel has a fitness room, which I will not use. But here are some pictures taken before I went to my room:

The equipment in the fitness room is pretty decent
The equipment is numerous, both in machines and in free weights
Obviously, the towel tray has not been emptied for a long time

Food options

I will not be using the hotel’s catering services due to my late arrival and early departure.

Departure

I’ll use the mobile check-out features and take an Uber to Schiphol.

A slightly incongruous portrait gallery in the lobby

Bottom line

A lousy stay: no water in the room, barely friendly receptionist and no recognition of Marriott status. Next time I will take a capsule at the Yotel located airside.
