As part of a romantic weekend in London, we chose to stay at the Dixon, an Autograph Collection hotel of the Marriott family.

Back on this very pleasant weekend in a very good London hotel.

Booking

I proceeded to book this hotel through the Marriott Bonvoy app, to join my wife who had some meetings in London just before.

The architecture of the hotel, in the purest London tradition
The majestic entrance of the hotel

We choose this hotel because of its acceptable value for money (about 150 € per night, a rarity in London) and its interesting design.

The lobby design is interesting, old with a modern twist

Its location is a bit of a step down, but London is a very well served metropolis by public transport and we will have no problems getting around.

The grand staircase in the lobby is quite majestic

Let’s go for a 3 nights stay at Dixon.

Overview of the lobby from the Grand Staircase
The modern twist sometimes goes a bit far
But the tradition continues with this majestic crystal chandelier
Art is honored in all common areas…
… And in all its forms!

Arrival

A few hours before my arrival, I see in the Marriott Bonvoy app an upgrade to a Suite, the highest room category in the hotel. Excellent!

The concierge area, near the corridor that leads to our room
The lobby doesn’t have much space to relax or wait, except for this one near the concierge desk

I arrive at the hotel by subway to the City station, located on the other side of the Thames, and will therefore take about ten minutes to arrive at the hotel, on foot. My wife has already completed the check-in process. I nevertheless stopped at the reception desk to declare my identity, and to confirm the Ambassador breakfast benefit as well as the late check-out at 4pm, which was done immediately. Perfect arrival experience.

On the way to our room
The bathroom in the lobby is very elegantly decorated
We love these butterflies!

Room

The assigned suite was located on the first floor of the property in the historic building. Please note that the standard rooms are located in the modern part of the property, built inside this historical part.

The entrance is quite large, and leads to a lounge to the right of this entrance. This lounge is completely separate from the rest of the space. It is a nice place to relax but it is (very) cold.

Lounge area that we will not use, in the end, much

The rest of the space is in one piece, with the very comfortable Queen size bed, and a small armchair, all in a very contemporary decoration that I really like.

Night space
In addition to the lounge area of the suite, a small relaxation area is installed in the bedroom itself
A welcome gift was left for me
A small fruit basket was brought in addition to the welcome service
The bed that will quickly put us in the arms of Morpheus
The coffee and tea equipment, and the well-stocked minibar, and, on the right, the bathroom
Latest generation Nespresso coffee machine
Even the design of the tableware is neat

The adjoining bathroom is nicely decorated, and the sink area is very spacious although it lacks a second sink to accommodate two people.

We regret the presence of a single basin despite the space
The toiletries are of excellent quality

The shower is huge with an incomparable pressure.

We prefer a beautiful shower to an old bathtub, not very practical
The spacious shower, a key element of comfort
The shower is very easy to adjust

To finish, a video tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel is equipped with a fitness room, located in the basement of the hotel. I won’t use it this time.

Access to the basement by stairs, near the restaurant

However, no pool or spa.

The fitness room, small and blind
The equipment is nevertheless of the latest generation

Food options

If the hotel is of good quality, then so is the restaurant, Provisioners. We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel.

We find the spirit of the decoration of the rooms at the entrance of the restaurant
The retro-chic decoration of the restaurant is rather successful
Diner booths offer a lot of privacy
Alcove chairs have a lot of charm
The decoration once again puts art in the spotlight in the corridors leading to the restaurant

Breakfast – Provisioners

For hotel guests, breakfast is served at the table. A small buffet is set up in the middle of the restaurant. It is small in size but of good quality.

A few cereals to start the day
Dairy products and some fruit
Some juices and flavored waters
Smoked meats and fish
The bread and pastries area is quite comprehensive

Hot and cold drinks are served at the table.

The table setting is simple but carefully done

Hot options are available to order at the table at no extra charge.

The possible choices at the table
Hot option ordered during one of the breakfasts. It is not very copious, but it completes the solid offer of the buffet

Everything was of good quality, without being the best hotel breakfast ever. The service was just perfect, very attentive without being intrusive.

Selection of cold cuts at the buffet

You should know that the place is quite nice, as the restaurant also serves as a neighborhood restaurant and cafe for locals who come there for a meeting or just to work.

The breakfast card is valid also for external guests

Dinner – Provisioners

We had dinner one of the nights also at Provisioners. The menu is not sophisticated but on the bistronomy trend. We will have a pressed lamb and some sides, and an excellent dessert.

A full table for a hearty and qualitative dinner

Not too expensive for a hotel restaurant.

And an excellent dessert, for those with a sweet tooth

Departure

The departure formalities at the hotel were perfect, but a cancellation of our flight to Paris at the last minute made us stay a good hour longer, to manage the IRROP. We are rebooked on Alitalia via LYC and LIN.

Bottom line

Not much to say about this stay: a historic building, rooms with top design, polite service… The only reproach would be its location a little far from the attractions, but not so much. Finally a good leisure hotel in a very Business location.
