After our excellent (but a bit tiring) flight back from Dubai to Zurich and while waiting for our return to Paris, we found refuge in the Senator Swiss lounge at Zurich airport in the Schengen zone (for the Senator Swiss lounge in the international zone, the visit is here).
Location of the lounge
It is located after the security controls, in the “Airside Center” located between terminals A and B/D in the Schengen zone.
It is easy to access as it is located shortly after the security checkpoints, but getting to your gate may require some walking if it is at the back of the terminal.
Who has access to the lounge
As is often the case with Swiss/Lufthansa, this lounge actually consists of two different lounges: a business lounge and a Senator lounge.
The Senator welcomes Miles & More Senator, Star Alliance Gold, and Star Alliance First Class passengers.
The business lounge is open to SWISS Business Class, Lufthansa Business Class, Austrian Business Class, Star Alliance Business Class and Miles & More members with Frequent Traveller status.
We are speaking here about the Senator lounge.
Once your eligibility has been verified at the front desk, you are directed to the “right” lounge.
Lounge Layout
At the heart of the lounge is a dining area with tables and chairs.
All around is a more “lounge” area with comfortable seats to wait for your next flight over a drink.
And a work area…a bit average in terms of calm and privacy for my taste.
Upstairs, on the mezzanine, the silent room, a space to rest in peace and quiet, without food or telephone.
A lounging area.
A ” relax in front of the TV ” area…
And a sleeping corner…or almost.
The whole is very well designed and with quality materials. Premium and soothing.
Food
The restaurant offer is very substantial.
Breads and pastries :
Yogurt, seeds and fibers
Cold cuts and cheeses :
And above all a cook who prepares dishes on demand!
And as always with Swiss/Lufthansa: the sweets!
And as far as drinks are concerned, there is everything you need in water and soft drinks.
Soft drinks and sodas
Wines and beers :
And strong liquor:
A rich, varied and above all qualitative offer that we would like to see in the Air France medium-haul lounges at Roissy… but we can always dream.
The atmosphere
This is perhaps the only negative point of this lounge. Zurich is very crowded with business and status passengers and despite the fact that a business lounge and a Senator lounge are located next to each other, at peak times, as was the case here, the lounge can quickly become so full that there is no room left and noisy. It’s not that the lounge is small, it’s just that there are a lot of passengers who are entitled to it. This is where the Silent Room is appreciated.
Otherwise, outside of these hours it is a very pleasant place.
Bottom line
Although it is a bit inferior to its alter ego in the international zone, this Swiss lounge is really very pleasant. We like the decoration, the design and the quality of the offer. For a “Schengen” medium-haul lounge it’s really very good.
