Delta has just announced a series of more than significant improvements to its long-haul economy class.
When we talk about the evolution of an airline’s product in economy class, it is generally to note its regression. An evil that even affects the business class world with Emirates unbundling its fares and Lufthansa wanting to charge for the choice of certain seats.
For once, we’re going to talk about a real upgrade with Delta’s recent announcement concerning the passenger experience in economy class on its flights of more than 6h30.
Delta’s two-course meal and cocktails in economy class
From now on, the purser will welcome and greet passengers at the boarding gate.
A welcome cocktail will be offered shortly after take-off. At the beginning it will be nothing less than a Bellini.
Then hot towel will be offered to the passenger (well…at the same time that SAS removes them).
For the meal, a new “bistro” menu will be created with a more premium offer. The quantities will be increased and the dishes will be larger. We cannot help but think that the Qatar Airways example has been looked at closely. In addition, a placemat will be placed on the table for the service.
The dessert will be served separately after the starter and the main course.

It does indeed make you want to try it and it gives an old-fashioned look to the usual large rectangular “canteen” style trays that we are too used to in economy class.
Before landing a second hot towel will be offered to the customer as well as chocolates during the descent.
Everything is summarized here:
A program designed by staff, validated by clients
Interestingly, one would expect the staff to protest against the additional workload that this new on-board service will entail, but no! Interestingly, the cabin crew themselves designed this new experience which was then validated by the customers.
The 3,000 pursers on the routes concerned have also received specific training to supervise the smooth running of operations.
Finally some good news in economy class
While there is a strong tendency to product mediocrity (especially in economy) on most of the western majors who sometimes use the term ” upmarket ” to congratulate themselves on a non-regression or a slight regression, we can only praise Delta’s initiative and investment which shows that the much-trumpeted word “customer experience” is not an empty promise for everyone.
