St Regis Bangkok: luxury hotels as we like them

New stay in Bangkok and after the excellent Athenee I decide to try the St Regis Bangkok despite my recent disappointing experience at the St Regis Singapore.

I opted for the transfer service offered by the hotel. As much as this type of service can be unaffordable in Europe, the Asian rates make it often wrong to deprive oneself. And while I’ m at it, I might as well enjoy the luxury experience from start to finish. A hotel agent is waiting for me after the baggage claim to accompany me to the car waiting outside. For once, at St Regis it is a Mercedes S300 and not a Bentley that is offered to guests. Inside oshibori, cold drinks, TV and wifi are available.

The St Regis Bangkok is conveniently located next to Lumpini Park

The hotel is conveniently located a few minutes from Lumpini Park. Not as good, in my opinion, as the Sofitel So but without it being detrimental.

As soon as I get out of the car, an agent of the hotel takes me in charge and accompanies me to my room where the check-in will take place. Since I arrived with a car from the hotel, they knew exactly what time to expect me but at least they did.

So I cross the lobby of the first floor…

Stop a few floors up at the reception floor that we just cross without stopping to take the elevators that lead to the rooms.

Grand Deluxe Room at the St Regis Bangkok

I was upgraded from Deluxe Room to Grand Deluxe. Light application of the loyalty program because standard suites were still available. On the other hand, knowing that the so-called standard suites offer a very mediocre view, I’m doing pretty well.

A very classic layout with a hallway with a large closet that opens to the bathroom on the left and the bedroom at the back.

The room is a decent size, with a desk area and a small lounge area.

A light welcome gift awaits me with a note from the hotel.

The bathroom has a separate shower and bathtub.

Needless to say, the bedding is of very good quality. As is often the case atSt Regis, the ensemble is sober and of very good taste.

Excellent food and beverage offer at the St Regis Bangkok

The hotel has several restaurants. I will try two: Jojo, an Italian restaurant and Zuma, a Japanese restaurant.

Jojo to start with.

The setting is in the image of the hotel: sober, warm. The tables are well spaced, which is appreciated.

Not being able to decide I opt for the tasting menu.

The dishes are excellent, the presentation impeccable and the service very friendly and warm. A real pleasure.

Change of scene with Zuma the next day. It’ s a contemporary and trendy Japanese style.

The restaurant is dark and the music is much too loud (it must be for the trendy side)

The dishes are good and well presented.

But what about the service? Difficult to catch a waiter on the fly to ask him anything, forgotten cutlery, and the impression of a sloppy service. Added to the noise of the loud music the whole thing was neither comfortable nor pleasant and all this made the quality of the food take a back seat.

No lounge but the inevitable St Regis Bar

The St Regis Bangkok does not have a lounge for its platinum guests, but offers them a drink and a light snack at cocktail hour in the inevitable St Regis Bar.

Superb setting.

The menu is very complete with beautiful creations and, of course, the traditional Bloody Mary, its local variation and some borrowings of its interpretation by other St Regis around the world.

To have tested some versions of the bloody mary and some classics (Negroni, Dirty Martini) the quality of the cocktails is really there. Excellent service.

High quality facilities

The St Regis Bangkok has a large fitness room. Located in upper floors, it is therefore very bright. The equipment is varied, there is plenty of room and a coach is on duty most of the day.

The hotel also has a beautiful swimming pool with a very nice view.

During my stay it was very uncrowded which made the experience even more enjoyable.

Let’s finish with the spa. Again, not a single person was there when I visited.

Suspended cabins allow you to relax above the jacuzzi. Original.

Too sophisticated even: between the jets, the temperature, the light, the music…one quickly gets lost in the settings.

Experience to the last meter

For my departure I will once again use the services of the hotel.

I will check out on the SPG app so I don’t have to go through the desk again. The car was waiting at the scheduled time.

While I was expecting to be “dropped” in front of the airport, the St Regis agent who had greeted me upon arrival was there. He will accompany me to the check-in counter and then to the security checks, carrying my passport, my tickets and my bag.

A very appreciable attitude for a true end-to-end service.

Conclusion: an unbeatable experience for money.

Were it not for the disappointment of the Japanese restaurant (and again, it’s all a matter of taste), the St Regis Bangkok offers a top-notch experience without fail. At 117 euros per night, you would have to be in bad faith not to appreciate it.
