Westin Valencia: a great deal

For those who are looking for a weekend destination when it starts to get grey in Paris, Valencia is an excellent destination. First of all because the mid-season is very pleasant from a sun/temperature point of view, then because it is good to stay there and to visit this city with multiple facets…finally because the Westin Valencia is very often in promotion during the weekends which allows you to treat yourself in a luxury hotel at a lower price. I would also add the Air Europa flights which allow you to leave Paris on Friday evening after work and return in the early evening on Sunday.

The Westin Valencia: a great way to get away for a weekend

The hotel is located just on the outskirts of the historic center which can be reached in about 15 minutes by walking. For those who don’t like walking, there is still the metro or cabs which are more than affordable. However, you should know that hotels inside the historic center are rare, which explains this.

Located in an old building emblematic of the local architectural style, the Westin Valencia makes a good impression upon arrival.

The lobby is imposing and sets the tone.

I arrive late by the last flight of the evening. The reception is friendly and attentive. Seeing that I am French the receptionist mentions with a smile “Ah the Air Europa flight of the evening to spend the weekend…”. In a few minutes the check-in is done and I go to my room.

A spacious room and a large terrace

I took the “Deluxe” room on special (so the first level of room available at the Westin Valencia…and you will see that it is more than enough).

The room is spacious. The desk area is big enough for the use I will have of it. On the other hand (and this is where you sometimes see the age of a hotel), I was a little short of electrical sockets near the desk for all my devices. Maybe for the next “refresh”…?

Maybe a little sad in terms of color…the superior rooms look more cheerful and colorful.

The entrance and bathroom are of good size with a large shower and bathtub, separate toilet and plenty of storage space.

And of course we find the Westin products, always of such good quality.

But the highlight of the show is the angled terrace. The superior room category will have a jacuzzi… advice to the fans.

Negative point: it looks a bit “worn” but on the other hand it is comfortable and spacious. For the view…let’s say that some rooms have a better one.

The hotel is organized around a patio around which restaurants and bars are located.

As far as the restaurant offer is concerned, the breakfast buffet is very good with, as usual in Spain, a special mention for the cold cuts. It is well supplied but could be a little more varied as far as the offer of hot dishes is concerned.

I also tested the bar and one of the restaurants.

Restaurant: good but can do better

As far as the bar is concerned, I come back to the usual criticism that I make of most hotel bars. The cocktails are good without being exceptional, no visible creation on the menu and the vague impression of disturbing the bartender visibly late in his set up.

As for the restaurant, the dishes were good and well presented but there was no reason to be over-enthusiastic. It is so easy to eat well for much more affordable prices in the city that unless you are forced to do so, you can easily do without the hotel’s services.

I didn’t have time to try the SPA… that will be for another time.

The Westin Valencia is a great deal in this category of hotels when you come across one of its frequent promotions, especially on weekends. A 5 star hotel at less than 150 euros per room gives you ideas. The restaurant offer seems to me perfectible or a little expensive but in such a city it is not really a problem.

Would I return to the Westin Valencia? Without any doubt because it is one of the “good deals” that never disappoints at less than 2 hours from Paris.
