For the second part of my stay in Charlotte, I stayed close to my client meeting venue, in the SouthPark district located, as its name suggests, to the south of North Carolina’s capital city.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
Booking
I booked this hotel a few days before my arrival in Charlotte. As required, I used my company’s Self Booking Tool, and took advantage of one of the flexible rates available. I booked for just over $200 per night.
Two days before my arrival, I checked in via the Marriott Bonvoy app, and indicated my arrival time around 5pm.
Arrival
I arrived at the hotel shortly before my scheduled arrival time, around 3.30pm, to complete check-in formalities.
I obviously bumped into a new recruit, who was shaking as I checked in. However, his colleague was behind him, assisting him with the formalities. Moments before my arrival, I had received notification that my room was ready.
My room key was indeed ready, and I was given a welcome gift. I had a choice of several, but chose a scented candle.
In AC hotels, the breakfast benefit is not offered to Platinum members and above, so a welcome gift or points are offered.
I had already noticed an upgrade in the application before my arrival, even though it was not indicated to me verbally.
Room
My room was on the second floor of the hotel, just above reception. This is the floor where the rooms with balcony are located, the category to which I was upgraded that day.
Right from the entrance, the bathroom was on the left. There was a large shower, toilet and washbasin with plenty of space for toiletries.
Still at the entrance, on the right, there was a closet opening onto the bedroom, as well as a fridge with bottled water, a safe and drawers.
This was followed by the sleeping area, with a king-size bed that was very comfortable, facing a wall-mounted TV above a bench with two built-in seats.
In the extension of this bench was a large desk from which I could work without any difficulty, facing a good-sized sofa and a coffee table. Following on from the bedroom was a balcony – or should I say terrace, since it’s a sizeable one – with a table and two chairs, as well as a large sofa for relaxing.
Finally, a video tour:
Hotel facilities
The hotel is equipped with a fitness room, located on the reception floor.
I had the opportunity to visit this fitness room on both mornings of my stay, and it was systematically deserted. The machines were of good quality, and I did two good sessions.
Catering
Catering was the hotel’s weak point. The hotel offered a few convenience products, right next to reception, but also a café next to reception where you could have breakfast, as well as a bar/restaurant (Cordial) on the rooftop of the property. I visited the rooftop on the first evening of my stay, but faced with the crowds and the noise, I turned back towards my room.
Breakfast – Cafecito
On the first morning, I had breakfast at the cafe located on the reception level of the property, Cafecito. I ordered two double-expressos, which were excellent, but also some Parma ham toasts, which were disgusting. I ate a small bite and left the rest. Very disappointing.
Service
Let’s not forget that this is still a Marriott half-service hotel. It’s hard to describe the service, but nonetheless, the staff was utterly charming, from receptionists to waiters to maids.
Departure
Check-out formalities were simplified: all I needed to do was deposit my room key at reception after my mobile check-out, and the bill was emailed to me within minutes.
Bottom line
A very good stay in a solid hotel.
