Planning a long weekend in Lille

One of the last long week-end in May gave me the opportunity to spend a few days in Lille and discover its heritage and gastronomy.

This spring, with its many public holidays that make it possible to plan extended getaways, was an opportunity for me, for once, to get out and about in France. So, after Bordeaux, Rouen and Strasbourg, it’s Lille’s turn to complete the sequence.

Here’s how I organized the trip.

Transportation

No surprises here: it will be by train, with a first-class SNCF TGV.

The hotel

The Moxy Lille

Staying in Lille for 5 days, I tried out two hotels: the Moxy and the Hermitage Gantois. Olivier has already presented them here long ago, so this will be an opportunity for me to make up my own mind.

Restaurants

Dinner at Le Cerisier in Lille

As usual, I tried to mix things up, between gourmet restaurants and estaminets, typical local eateries.

If finding the former wasn’t complicated, it was more complicated for the latter, between those who didn’t take online bookings, those who were fully booked even several weeks in advance, and those who didn’t take bookings for one person.

In the end, I’ll be going to Estaminet chez Raoul, Table du Clarance, Cerisier and Braque.

One estaminet, one “simple” gastronomic restaurant, two Michelin-starred restaurants.

Lille’s Grand Place

Lille offers an interesting heritage to discover, but not enough to keep you busy for 4 or 5 days. I therefore gave myself the opportunity to take the time to get away from the city to see the Musée d’Art Moderne in Villeneuve d’Ascq and La Piscine, another museum in Roubaix, which takes its name from the fact that it occupies the building….of a former swimming pool.

Bottom line

This gives us the following itinerary
