We leave the hotel shortly after 8.30am for our first visit.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
Dimmuborgir
We start our day a few kilometers from the hotel at the Dimmuborgir formations, which are actually the craters of explosive volcanoes that have subsequently reformed into beautiful rounded shapes, so we stop to take a few photos.

The tour is fairly short, taking just 15 minutes to complete, and you can continue your day’s drive northwards.
Detifoss and Selfoss
We then move on to the Detifoss and Selfoss waterfalls, among the most powerful in Europe. I advise you to access it from the west, not the east.

Our first stop is the Detifoss waterfall, where several hundred m3 of water fall every second. You’ll see a few videos below, but it’s really very impressive.

The Selfoss waterfall is also magnificent.
Husavik
We then head for the coastal town of Husavik.
This town is well known for its whale-watching, with departures by boat from the port.

As the next departure isn’t for another two hours, we decide to have lunch instead, at a restaurant on the edge of the harbor. The food was pretty average, and the prices very high, an Icelandic classic. After our meal, we move on to explore the next town.
Akuryeri
This is Akuryeri, known as the capital of northern Iceland.
We stroll through the streets, take a few photos, including of its typical church, and enjoy a coffee and pastry in one of the downtown properties.

We’re in Iceland, and a big city means more than 500 inhabitants, so there’s not a lot to do either. We stroll through a few streets and then get back in our car, heading for our accommodation for the night.
After about an hour’s drive, we arrived at the hotel, checked in, and then set off to explore. We make a brief stop at the port of Skagafjördur, with its impressive industrial fishing boats.
Glaumbær
We then headed for the Glaumbær church and farm museum, which we were able to photograph as the door was open, despite the fact that it was already past 10 p.m. when we visited. We finally head back to our accommodation for a well-deserved night’s sleep.
