After leaving the Hilton hotel in the early morning, we head for the first attraction of the day, Þingvellir National Park, about 50 km east of Reykjavik.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
On the way, we stop to admire the beautiful Icelandic countryside, with its plains and mountains adorned with flowers that were in full bloom this summer. located about 50 km east of Reykjavik.
Þingvellir Natural Park
Þingvellir Park is an Icelandic natural park to the east of Reykjavik.
It is possible to park in this natural park in several places, the parking is, however, subject to a charge. You can pay for parking either on their web site or on the terminals located in each of the natural park’s reception areas. All international credit cards are accepted, including American Express.
We parked in one of the parking lots and wandered through this magnificent park, with its many waterfalls and exceptional natural scenery. I invite you to spend about 1h/1h30 there before continuing on your way.
Geysers
We hadn’t planned to stop here, but on the way to the Gullfoss waterfall, we spotted geysers on the left-hand side of the road and decided to stop both to admire this attraction and to have a picnic.
It’s really something you only see a few times in your life, and a very interesting phenomenon of nature to behold, as these geysers are still active and belch out their steam at regular intervals, every minute or so.
Gullfoss waterfall
The Gullfoss waterfall is extremely impressive: one of the most powerful in Europe, the water is so powerful that a halo of steam is released around it. Impressive!
Kerið crater
At the edge of the road leading to Seljalandsfoss, we see this crater in which a lake has formed over time. Beautiful colors!
Seljalandsfoss waterfall
This waterfall is impressive because you can access it from the rear. Just do it, experience guaranteed!
Skógafoss waterfall
An impressive waterfall, very powerful, which you can approach from below, but also climb the adjoining mountain to see it from above, and thus see the affluent of this waterfall. Impressive too.
