Review : Boscolo Nice, Autograph Collection

As part of a winter stay in the South of France, I stayed with my wife at the Boscolo Nice hotel, a member of the Autograph Collection (at the time).

A look back at this somewhat disappointing stay.

Booking

I booked this stay using the Marriott Bonvoy app. Nothing special, except the choice of the Boscolo in Nice rather than the Meridien.

Bertrand has already made a rather disgusting review of it, and my stay, which is now a bit old, did not leave me an imperishable memory.

Reservation made for 117€ per night using the corporate rate of my business.

Arrival

We arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon, after a short Uber ride from Nice airport.

Big works are taking place in front of the Haussmannian building of the hotel because of the upcoming arrival of the tramway in the city, and we are dropped off as close as possible.

The day before, the room had been upgraded to a Junior Suite in the Bonvoy app.

The Christmas tree welcomes all guests in the lobby

We are warmly welcomed by the receptionist, who confirms the upgrade and presents the Ambassador benefits. I choose as usual the breakfast.

The lobby is rather bland, but some interesting pieces of decoration complete it

She also points out that access to the spa is free for Platinum members and above.

The hotel was already decorated for the upcoming holidays

Room

The suite we stayed in was located on one of the upper floors of the property. The decoration of the corridors is quite contemporary, while keeping a pompous side that betrays the Italian origin of the Boscolo chain.

A cupboard a little planted there in the entry, without great coherence with the rest of the suite

The decoration of the suite itself is very… white. As a result, its age is somewhat betrayed by the poor state of maintenance of the furniture which has suffered a lot.

In addition to the questionable taste of the decoration, the sofa has suffered

The separation between the night space and the day space is not particularly obvious
The personalized welcome letter from the director is nevertheless always welcome

The entrance leads to the lounge area, separated from the night area by a long sofa.

The night space is finally quite small, even if the bed is comfortable.

The night space is actually quite small

The bed was rather comfortable (attention, Italian bed linen)

The bathroom is not really separated from the bedroom, just by a curtain, which is really borderline in a suite. The shower-bathtub is not very appropriate.

The washbasin space is rather narrow

As in any Italian hotel chain, a bidet is provided to guests

The decoration of the toilets is rather successful, and contrasts with the poor quality of the rest of the room

The shower/baths are not very practical, and offer no privacy

A spacious junior suite, but one would expect more.

The visit in video :

Hotel facilities

For a provincial hotel, the hotel’s facilities are quite extensive, with a gym and spa.

The sauna, the hammam and the swimming pool are served by this corridor

We enjoyed the spa on Saturday afternoon, and it was quite busy. The pool is very nice, and the design very nice.

The relaxation areas of the spa

I did not test the gym this time.

Catering

The hotel has a Michelin-starred restaurant and a breakfast room.

We enjoyed the breakfast and dinner services.

Breakfast service

Breakfast is served in a special room near the bar.

My fried eggs (a little failed) prepared on demand

If there is a small buffet, waiters regularly pass by with carts to serve different items, such as a huge braided bufala mozzarella and several olive oils. It is possible to order hot elements at will.

The superb wheel of parmesan cheese on the breakfast buffet
Some carefully prepared dairy products and jams
Some cookies to complement the breakfast items
We ate mozzarella several times
The pannetone, another element that recalls the Italian side of the property

Dinner service

Dinner is served in the main restaurant.

The chef’s table is quite beautiful

Everything was good, but we were a little disappointed. The dishes are basic and the service just OK.

Some cold cuts (of very average quality) and radishes to start the meal
A piece of grilled beef without a lot of pep

Departure

We took advantage of the guaranteed late departure at 4pm to stroll around the area. Easy departure and without surprise.

Bottom line

A mixed stay, just like the service which is very variable in this hotel. The decor was not to my taste, too pompous for me. But it’s not possible to please everyone…
