As part of a business conference in the Austrian capital, I booked a room at the Renaissance Vienna for three nights at the last minute.
A look back at a half-hearted stay marked by the great distance between the property and the city.
Booking
I booked the hotel through the Marriott Bonvoy app, using my business’s corporate code.
As the price was much lower than other Marriott hotels, I decided to proceed with the booking, as the conference centre I had to go to was outside the city centre anyway.
Arrival
My conference starts in the early afternoon, so I arrive by plane at Vienna airport in the late morning. I decide to go to the hotel using public transport, namely the train and then the metro.
A few days before my arrival, my room was upgraded to a Junior Suite.
When I arrived at the hotel, I was told that my room was already ready. I complete the arrival formalities, confirm my upgrade and choose breakfast as a Platinum benefit.
I then head for my room.
Room
The suite I was assigned is located on one of the upper floors of the hotel. It is located in a corner, i.e. quite far from the lifts.
Upon entering the suite, one enters directly into the bathroom on the right. It is quite practical, and very modern, like the rest of the hotel.
Then there is a large room with a lounge area, an office area and a very comfortable king size bed.
I will spend a lot of time in this suite, either working or eating, and of course resting after long days at the conference centre.
I must admit that both the decoration and the comfort are of a high standard.
To finish, a video tour:
Hotel facilities
The property has a number of facilities, including a fitness room.
This one is pretty well equipped, with lots of cardio equipment, and some strength training.
The property also has a sauna, located in the changing rooms of the fitness room.
Catering
The quality of the food in this property is quite good. I will use the restaurant for both breakfast and lunch, but also room service sometimes for dinner service.
Breakfast service in the restaurant
For all my mornings on site, I will have breakfast in the restaurant. The restaurant is rather busy, with many Asian groups sometimes not very discreet and occupying many tables.
The waitress will make a point of placing other customers in quiet areas, and she has provided good service.
The buffet is pretty well stocked, with a hot zone that offers scrambled eggs, bacon and potatoes as standard, an option to order omelettes a la carte, and a number of other hot items. The cold zone is also of good quality, with cold cuts and cheeses as well as smoked salmon. Viennese pastries are inevitably offered with other bread elements.
Coffee is not served, but is available via self-service espresso machines.
If it wasn’t for the noisy Asian clientele, it would be a great experience with a pretty good breakfast.
Lunch service in the restaurant
Just after my arrival at the hotel, and while waiting for my conference to start, I decided to have lunch in the property’s restaurant.
I chose from the (simplistic) menu a Caesar salad and a fruit salad.
I note that the service was rather slow. A buffet option is available for those in a hurry.
Room service for dinner
On one of my evenings at the hotel, I decided to order a room service dish. Room service can be ordered through the smart TV in the room, which avoids misunderstandings when ordering.
I will choose a Wiener Schnitzel which will be just perfect.
Departure
Simplified departure formalities, carried out in a few seconds at the front desk.
Bottom line
An excellent hotel, unfortunately too far from the city, even by metro. We’ll be back though, as the hotel is really excellent in every way.
