Today’s itinerary

Booking

I made the reservation at the same time as I booked my flight. I hesitated for a long time between a hotel in Monaco and this hotel in Nice. I already know Le Méridien, and you’ll find Bertrand’s review of this catastrophic hotel.

I booked the property at the special Marriott “Back to Hotel” rate of €120 per night, including breakfast.

Arrival

I arrive at the hotel after an Uber ride from the airport.

Hotel signage in front of the lobby… But finding the right door isn’t easy

Only a glass door gives access to the lobby

The lobby was deserted when I arrived, and the receptionist was lonely. She calls me directly by name, telling me I’m the only guest arriving that evening. This post-COVID era is a sad one…

The lobby is completely deserted

This lobby is nevertheless very pleasant

She thanked me for my loyalty and told me that she had all the information about my stay following my online check-in. I asked to change the credit card used to guarantee my stay, which was done immediately. My rate included breakfast, so I chose the points as a welcome gift. She indicates me an upgrade to a Junior Suite with sea view.

A takeaway corner lets you fill your room’s minibar

I then head for the elevators that lead to the rooms.

On my way to my room

Room

My suite was located on the 4th floor of the hotel, the only floor currently occupied by guests.

The corridors are decorated in a very neutral style

Finally, a bit like an American hotel

My suite was located at the very end of this corridor.

The entrance features a large closet.

The entrance is very spacious, even a little too spacious

Rates are not sweet

The bathroom is very small for a suite, with a basin, toilet and bidet, plus a bathtub that doubles as a shower. The decor is in stark contrast to that usually found in AC hotels, but I like it. On the other hand, I liked the golf ball as a soap, and it’s no longer available. The other toiletries are rather unremarkable.

IMG_7822
The bathroom is well decorated, better than in other hotels in the chain.
IMG_7823
I prefer a shower to a bathtub, but it’ll do for one night.

Then there’s the sleeping area, with a beautiful king-size bed of acceptable comfort, 5 pillows and extra towels.

IMG_7824
The comfort of AC beds is always questionable

A small desk is located right next to the large TV.

IMG_7825
The desk is rather cramped

A large bay window offers a partial (and somewhat distant) view of the sea.

Next to this bay window is the lounge area with sofa and coffee table. A welcome service was set up for me, with Premium orange juice and chocolates (which were unfortunately refrigerated, and therefore bleached).

IMG_7826
The lounge area is very pleasant, with the sofa positioned so that you can see the sea (from a distance).

And finally, the view at dawn:

Difficult to take this photo without reflections, sorry.

Finally, the virtual tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel is equipped with a fitness room that I won’t be using, as well as a rooftop pool with an adjoining restaurant, both of which will remain closed during my stay.

Food options

The hotel restaurant is temporarily closed, no doubt due to very low occupancy. I won’t be using the temporary bar in the lobby.

IMG_7831
This lobby bar is not very well stocked.
IMG_7813
The temporary bar is rather well decorated
IMG_7815
The rooftop, on the other hand, is closed

However, I’ll be having breakfast the next morning, in the ad hoc room near the lobby.

IMG_7832
Hydroalcoholic gel, our new companion

There’s no buffet here for the moment, but a table service based on a sheet to be filled in with whatever you wish.

IMG_7833
Excellent espresso

I’ll have a hearty breakfast to sustain me throughout the day, and the elements will be of average quality (the cheeses will be of too low a quality).

IMG_7834
A truly comprehensive and excellent breakfast

Departure

Departure formalities are simple and the invoice sent by e-mail.

Bottom line

A very good stay, and excellent Ambassador treatment. We’ll return when the facilities are reopened.
