Review: Lufthansa First Class Singapore-Frankfurt in A380

Second to last flight for my return to Europe. After returning from Bali to Singapore in Business on Singapore Airlines, a visit to the famous Singapore airport Jewel and a disappointing visit to the Silverkris First Class Lounge, it was time to fly back to Frankfurt in First on Lufthansa.

Check-in and ground course in Singapore

When I checked-in in Bali, Singapore Airlines checked me and my luggage to my final destination (Paris) via Frankfurt so no worries on that side.

As for the ground journey, I could have simplified it by going directly to the lounge when I got off my flight from Bali and then to the boarding gate. Given the length of the connection (8 hours), I passed through immigration in no time to go and stroll around the Jewel.

Then back to the Terminal to go to the Lounge. Formalities completed in a few seconds for the police controls because everything is biometric and 4 minutes later I am in the Silverkris First Class lounge of which I will not keep an imperishable memory.

I will then have to walk a bit to reach my boarding gate as often in Singapore. No specific escort service for Lufthansa First passengers.

In Singapore the security checks are done at the gate. This is advantageous because it allows quick access to the terminal by simply passing through the biometric police controls, but it is disadvantageous because it forces you to anticipate your departure from the lounge.

Not many people yet. Upon presentation of my First boarding pass, they stop a line to give me priority. As always in Singapore the controls are efficient and courteous and I find myself in the boarding room.

Boarding in Singapore

IMG_2903

Nice, we have a lot of room.

The flight is announced on time.

IMG_2908

It looks like it’s slowly getting crowded. An A380 is a lot of people.

IMG_2913

We board on time. This time it is by class and not by zone. Not very uniform processes at Lufthansa depending on the airport.

IMG_2914

So I’m one of the first to step into the jetway. And after a few minutes of walking I am in the now familiar First class cabin of the A380.

IMG_2919

The two flight attendants are happy to show me that they can speak French.

A glass of champagne arrives. Then another one.

IMG_2942

Accompanied as it should be by a hot oshibori.

IMG_2946

They give me my pajamas and the amenity kit. The kits at Lufthansa…it goes from the best to the worst in terms of taste and design and the models change according to the flights.

Luckily, I get a Rimowa suitcase.

IMG_2934

I love it!

As for the content, it is functional but not very premium.

IMG_2933

As for the pajamas it’s the usual pattern that I really like even though I prefer the dark blue I had last spring and summer than this brown. On the other hand, it comes with a small scarf which is very useful to avoid catching a chill in flight despite the blanket.

IMG_2937

Doors closed on time (23:55) but due to bad weather air traffic control imposed a 20 minute wait. No matter, a third glass is coming.

Finally we will postpone at 0:27. It was about time. It was a really long day.

The First Class cabin of the Lufthansa A380

A quick tour of the Lufthansa First Class cabin that you’ve already seen from every angle on TravelGuys.

It leaves a somewhat ambivalent feeling. I like the feeling of space but the counterpart is that I am not isolated from the rest of the passengers. We are far from the suites that have become the standard for this type of product and even more and more in business.

IMG_2922

Plenty of legroom. Fortunately, at the touch of a button, the ottoman automatically moves closer so that you can put your feet on it.

IMG_2949

The seat controls are clear. It’s a change.

IMG_2929

The remote control shows that the in-flight entertainment system is not new.

IMG_2930

For all that, the screen is of good quality, far from what we find on Air France and the offer of films very correct. But it’s late and watching a movie is my last concern.

The last notable point about the First Class cabin of this Lufthansa A380: the toilets. Indeed, we have a real changing room very pleasant to change before going to sleep.

With, the highlight of the show, unique in a plane, a urinal!

The Lufthansa First Class flight and service

Shortly after takeoff, the main purser comes to introduce herself. Always smiling and friendly Lufthansa staff. At least in the front classes.

Here is the menu we were given on the ground.

IMG_2938

IMG_2939

Champagne again.

IMG_2941

The service is getting ready. It’s late, it’s long, and some have already shifted to the bed position while waiting.

IMG_2966

The appetizers finally arrive.

IMG_2977

Shrimp, avocado, sauce, it’s good and very fresh.

The table is finally set. It is 1:24 am.

IMG_2982

I really like the large selection of bread offered. I’ll have garlic bread.

The service of the starters begins, with the cart of course.

IMG_2985

Starters:

IMG_2990

The veal is good, with well-seasoned vegetables and capers. The scallops are bland but the potatoes and ginger do a miracle to save the dish. The rest is bland and uninteresting.

You may have noticed that I skipped the caviar. It’s late, my eyelids are heavy, I’m barely hungry and I want to get through dinner as quickly as possible.

For the dish I will take lobster and, tired, I forgot to take a picture. Take my word for it, it was very good.

As soon as the meal is finished, I go to change in the toilets. I really like the Lufthansa service but it is long. At certain times we really appreciate it but for such a late flight they should review the protocol because it is so long that we do not enjoy anything and we dream that it ends.

When I get out my bed has been made up and the partition raised.

IMG_3011

That’s it! Good night to all!

IMG_3017

I will wake up after 7 hours of well-deserved sleep.

Disadvantage of the cabin: it is supposed to be plunged in the darkness but the absence of real partitions makes that it is enough that a person uses his computer to illuminate it.

IMG_3020

This is my 6th first class flight on Lufthansa this year, the first one where this is so noticeable.

IMG_3024

I’m going to go change. When I returned, my seat was back to normal and the table was set for breakfast. I’ll settle for tea.

IMG_3025

After a smooth approach I arrived in Frankfurt.

IMG_3032

The Lufthansa crew

Always efficient and very warm in First Class. I would blame them for the length of the service but it’s not their fault but the protocol. I am always surprised to see that they still make the effort to speak French when they can.

Arrival and disembarkation in Frankfurt

The police controls went through like clockwork and it is in an almost empty terminal that I join the First Class Lounge of terminal A while waiting for my flight to Paris.

Bottom line

A good flight but I suffered a lot from the time and duration of the service for such a late flight. There is definitely something to be reviewed about the protocol for late night flights. Otherwise the cabin, despite being spacious and comfortable, showed its design limits as soon as someone turned on his computer in the middle of the night.

A nice experience but certainly my least good flight in First Class on Lufthansa.
