Review : Asiana Economy, Seoul Gimpo – Beijing

After half an hour in the lounge, it is now time to board the plane to go back to Beijing where we will spend a few days before coming back to Europe.

Ground experience

To board, you must take the elevator in the other direction to return to the departure level. As we left the lounge, the attendant told us to use the priority boarding lane, which was available to us because of our Star Alliance Gold status.

Boarding

A priority lane is available and respected for boarding. As we waited for it to start before going to the door, this line is empty and we board directly through the feeder.

Remember that we are still in Gimpo!
We are well reminded of our sad fate: it is Economy today!
The red carpet is nevertheless in place.

Cabin and reception

The welcome is, as on the outward journey, warm and our seat is indicated in the cabin.

The cabin gets ready for takeoff

No surprise, it’s the same type of aircraft and therefore the same cabin as on the outbound flight, old but comfortable, with an acceptable pitch. Well, not to the point of making a long-haul flight in Economy, don’t exaggerate.

The pitch is not as good when the pocket is full.
The IFE could be much worse…

Service and catering

We are in Asia: no specific breakfast catering, but a classic meal.

Asiana does not let passengers starve!

And above all a full meal, which was excellent!

Arrival and disembarkation

We arrive at the gate on time and disembark once again in Beijing.

This time we have to start the entry process for 144 hours without a visa, but the counter on our side of the terminal is closed, and we have to go around before we get to an open counter.

Nevertheless, Beijing airport is always pleasant

The process seems simple, but is subject to the goodwill and zeal of the immigration officer, who will ask to see all our reservations and will take time to understand everything.

Moreover, in Beijing, unlike in Shanghai, you have to go through the immigration queue again, which is quite time consuming.

So, in front of the baggage claim, no waiting and we find the driver who will take us to the hotel.

Bottom line

A very solid flight, with a very nice crew and quality catering. The arrival experience is perfectible, but this is not really the fault of the airline.
