JW Marriott Chicago: A Very Good Standard

For this short trip to Chicago, I chose to stay at a hotel I did not know and that had recently been renovated: the JW Marriott Chicago, located in the Loop, downtown Chicago, which also serves as the city’s business district.
JW Marriott Chicago : Très bon niveau

Booking

I booked this property less than two weeks before my arrival, through the Marriott Bonvoy app.

After receiving the booking confirmation, I used one of my Nightly Upgrade Awards to try to secure an upgrade, which was confirmed three days before arrival when the confirmation window opened.

Arrival

I arrived at the hotel shortly after 6 p.m. following a pleasant flight from Boston.

I had already completed the online check-in formalities beforehand.

Strangely, and unlike usual, my room had been assigned five days before my arrival (and then updated when the NUA was confirmed).

I received my mobile key while in transit, which allowed me to go directly to my suite without having to stop at the front desk.

I still had to stop there, however, because my mobile key did not provide access to the Executive Lounge.

Suite

My suite was located on the 11th and top floor of the property.

It was called the Quincy and was located on a corner of the building, offering panoramic views over the superb architecture of Downtown Chicago.

The entrance opens into a vestibule, which provides access to a first bathroom and leads straight ahead into a living room area featuring a large sofa facing a sideboard topped by a television, while a large desk sits near the windows.

Next comes the sleeping area, with a large corner bathroom featuring two sinks, a large rounded bathtub, and a spacious shower.

Finally, there is the bedroom itself, with its very comfortable king-size bed.

To conclude, here is the video tour:

Hotel Amenities

The hotel features a 24-hour fitness center as well as a pool and a spa. I was not able to use the spa during this stay due to lack of time.

Fitness Center

I used the fitness center on both mornings of my stay at the hotel. It is located in the basement of the property and is quite large. The machines are of good quality and there is enough space for free weights.

Pool

The pool is adjacent to the fitness center and is a good size. I used it on the second evening of my stay.

Food & Beverage

The property features a bar located in the hotel lobby, an Italian restaurant on the second floor, as well as an Executive Lounge reserved for elite guests and those staying in the highest room categories.

Executive Lounge

I made good use of the hotel’s Executive Lounge, located on the 12th and top floor of the property.

It offers a varied selection depending on the time of day.

Appetizers and Happy Hour

On the evening of my arrival, I enjoyed the happy hour offered between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

IMG_7475

That evening featured a tasting of Californian white wine, accompanied by an excellent rare rib steak that was absolutely perfect.

A buffet was also available in addition, and it was very elegantly presented with highly appealing individual portions.

Breakfast

On both mornings of my stay, I had breakfast in the lounge. The offering was very decent and well presented, and I had some eggs with toast.

The Florentine – Dinner Service

On the first evening of my stay, I had dinner at the hotel restaurant, The Florentine. It is managed by the BLT group, which operates many establishments in the city. I was not very hungry, but the margherita pizza I ordered was excellent.

Service

The service throughout this stay was excellent, at the front desk, in the Club Lounge, and in the restaurant.

Departure

The departure formalities were extremely simple, completed in 10 seconds, with the invoice sent by email immediately.

Bottom line

An excellent stay at a hotel I would gladly return to.
