Diversification in the hotel industry: Ritz-Carlton chooses cruises

The major hotel groups are seeking to diversify and not all are moving in the same direction or with the same success.

Lately, many companies have started renting out their apartments on a seasonal basis in order to position themselves in the same niche as Airbnb, with the addition of a hotel service. We have already mentionedTribute Portfolio Home for Starwood Marriott but let’s also mention Hostmaker for Marriott, OneFineStay for Accorhotels, or Oasis Collectionsfor Hyatt. With mixed success, as the latest nominees have mainly contributed to the plummeting results of the owning hotel groups.

A totally different approach at Ritz-Carlton, which is launching the Ritz Carlton Yatch Collection.

Its first boat, the Azora, will start cruising in 2020.

It is 190 meters long and will carry 298 passengers in 149 suites of different sizes.

From the smallest…

…. to the largest.

The promise is of course to offer the same level of experience on the sea as in the chain’s luxury hotels.

As for the prices…we leave you to judge.

A strategy consistent with the brand’s DNA, more conservative but certainly less risky than that of its peers.
