Sheraton Porto: it has everything, except its location

As part of a weekend getaway, I booked theSheraton Porto for 3 nights in early July 2017. The hotel is very beautiful, the staff very attentive, but its real problem is its really off-center location, a few kilometers from downtown porto. Fortunately well served by public transportation, the hotel is only 10 minutes from the center by subway, and 15 minutes by Uber from the airport.

Booking

I booked this hotel via the SPG website as usual. Benefiting from an interesting corporate rate at 135 € per night, I used this possibility knowing that it allowed me to benefit from a total flexibilityon the reservation.

The day before I arrived, I found that my reservation had been upgraded to an Executive Suite, the highest level available in the hotel.

Arrival

I arrived in the hotel around midnight by Uber. The check-in procedure was quick and efficient. The receptionist made the effort to address me in French to facilitate the exchanges.

My upgrade to the executive suite was confirmed, and I was asked to choose my Platinum benefit. I chose the points, knowing that breakfast was already included in my rate.

Room

The assigned suite was located on the 5th floor of the property, at one corner of the hotel.

Upon entering, one enters theliving room, composed of a desk, a dining table as well as a sofa and a coffee table.

The room is composed of arather uncomfortable bedand armchairs. The whole is quite standard, in a late 90’s decoration style.

The bathroom is very spacious, and all glazed. Electric curtains are used to block the view of the room. The sliding door does not slide much anymore. Toiletries are available in large numbers.

Finally, a video tour of the suite:

Hotel facilities

The hotel has excellent facilities in the gym and spa, both located in the basement of the hotel and accessible by a direct elevator reserved for residents.

The gym is very spacious, and equipped with modern machines.

The spa is very elegant, with convenient changing rooms and plenty of space to relax. A Japanese garden has been set up outside.

Various saunas and steam baths are available to residents, including sensory saunaswith different scents.

The water area is also very well designed, with very comfortableelectric mattresses, a semi-Olympic pool and a Jacuzzi with various water jets.

The club lounge is located on the 12th floor of the property. Endowed with a beautiful terrace, the services remain minimalist.

Restaurants

The hotel’s catering is provided in the large room on the first floor.

For the breakfast service, I came at rush hour every time. Difficult to find a table easily, and I had to wait several minutes.

The service is not very attentive, and you have to call the staff several times to be served hot drinks.

The buffet is quite qualitative, with afresh juice machineand a nice egg station, but the cook is totally overwhelmed by the demand during peak hours.

As for the dinner, the atmosphere is completely different: the service isvery attentive, the menu really excellent from the starter to the dessert.

Departure

The departure formalities were simple and fast, after a late departure at 4pm obtained the day before.

Conclusion

A very good hotel, unfortunately disadvantaged by its location. We will preferthe Intercontinental, situated in the heart of Porto, for a next stay.
