Sheraton Casablanca: Efforts on the service, even if a renovation is necessary

A few weeks ago, I stayed at the Sheraton Casablancaas part of a fairly intense business trip to Morocco, the only Starwood property in the country’s economic capital.

Booking

I had some hesitation before making the reservation. Even on the Starwood website, the hotel’s rating is very low, close to 3/5.
Nevertheless, I gave this hotel a chance because of its reasonable price compared to some of the Accor rates, totally unreasonable for the country, at almost 150€ per night.
So i made a classic reservation on the SPG website.

Arrival

I arrived by Uber at the hotel around 7pm. Nobody at the check-in and I am taken care of immediately. The smile appears on the receptionist’s face when he notices that I am Platinum.
He told me that I had been upgraded to a Club room, with all the usual benefits that this confers, and gave me all the amenities: 500 points, buffet breakfast in addition to the one served in the Club and a fruit basket in my room.
The formalities done, I go to my room.

Room

Contrary to the reviews found on the internet, the room is rather nicely decorated, with a wooden floor.

Certainly, it is a little old-fashioned! In particular the bathroom, which by its slightly worn marble is different from the rest of the room.

Otherwise, the rest is pretty comfortable, with a very good quality king size bed, a very functional desk, and a welcome service with plenty of fresh fruit and a large bottle of water.

Like the bathroom, the entrance is also dated, with a closet that would benefit from a good renovation.

To finish, here is a virtual visit of the room:

Club Lounge

The services at the club are rather basic: a buffet was available in the evening, but without alcoholic drinks.
A person is always present in case of need. She also makes you sign forms containing all the consumption taken in the lounge during your stay, I imagine for accounting purposes.

Hotel facilities

The hotel has a pool, but due to my late arrival and early departure, I could not enjoy it.
On the other hand, I was able to enjoy the fitness room from early morning and with great happiness. The devices, although of old generation, are well maintained. However, the room remains old-fashioned, like the rest of the property.

Restaurants

The hotel has multiple restaurants, a bar and a nightclub in the basement.
I didn’t get to try these facilities either, but I did get to try the breakfast room service.

And I must say that everything was perfect for a reasonable price (by Western standards of course). I particularly recommend the basket of pastries which were of an incomparable crispness for a foreign country.

Departure

The departure formalities were quick and efficient. And my Uber was already waiting for me to leave.

Conclusion

An old-fashioned hotel, but which does not deserve its criticisms on the net, because real efforts are made by the adorable staff to compensate for its old-fashioned side.
