Sheraton Prague: the bare minimum, without much interest

A stay in Czech Republic was for me the opportunity to test the Sheraton Prague.

The hotel is relatively well located, right on the edge of the city center and therefore within walking distance of almost everything interesting to see in the city.

It is composed of two buildings: in front an old building in the purest style of local architecture, on the back there is a second more modern building.

The first impression is therefore rather good. But once you walk through the front door, it immediately looks more old-fashioned. The lobby is very 80’s/90’s and deserves a makeover.

The check-in is done quickly, my standard room is upgraded to a club room. The bare minimum in terms of applying the loyalty program but the hotel looked very full so maybe they didn’t have anything better.

If it lacks a little depth it is still of acceptable size and there is room to move.

The “office” space on the other hand is a bit limited.

Compared to the size of the room, the bathroom is surprisingly large.

And the visit in video to finish.

I don’t know when the last renovation was done but it looks very new, clean and tasteful. With the exception of the balcony, which shows that the building is not in its prime.

You only have to walk through the hotel’s corridors to get confirmation of this half-finished renovation feeling.

Like the room, the corridors look ‘new’.

But all you have to do is approach the elevator and stairwells to go back 20 years.

Restaurant - Sheraton Prague

Sheraton Prague

In short a room which corresponds to what one expects from this kind of hotel but the common parts which frankly leave to be desired.

The restaurant: the pleasant surprise of the Sheraton Prague

After a late arrival I took the easy way out and had dinner at the hotel restaurant instead of looking for a table in town.

The entrance of the restaurant, there also, is not particularly attractive. I wonder in which type of greasy spoon I’m going to dine, more especially as the smells of cooking are rather present. And once I moved forward a few meters, the miracle happened. The smells disappear and the place appears tastefully decorated. But again, half-heartedly: sober furniture matched with dark walls are alongside tiles and wallpaper from another era.

The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious and very well presented.

I never thought I would say this, but in the end, if there is one great point of satisfaction in this stay, it is the restaurant at the Sheraton Prague. Well, not the restaurant itself but the service and the dishes.

I did not test the bar located in the lobby although it seemed very pleasant.

The Sheraton Prague also has a very famous roof-top bar, unfortunately closed during my stay for weather reasons.

As for the Club Lounge, it is quite minimalist. Here again, the room doesn’t look like much.

It at least has the merit of offering warm dishes even if the whole thing remains very minimalist.

In short, a club lounge that has the merit of existing for gold and platinum members of the loyalty program but does not leave a memorable experience.

I will finish with the gym.

Located in the basement and of suitable size. Having been there early in the morning I don’t know if its size is enough for rush hour. Most of the equipment is there, it’s clean but it doesn’t make you dream.

If the check-in went remarkably well, the check-out will take a long time with a not very friendly staff.

Conclusion: the Sheraton Prague does the job, without more.

In the end the Sheraton Prague does the job in a very minimalist way. The rooms are nice but the rest of the hotel really needs a paint job. Si vous cherchez un retour dans les années 80 c’est l’endroit parfait. For a future stay in Prague I will try the Augustine instead.

Hotel: a good location, but a really old property. 7

Check-in / Check-out: Perfect on arrival, catastrophic on departure. 5

Room : Good size for a “standard” room and nicely decorated. On the other hand the balcony is Beirut. 8

Catering : A restaurant which does not look like much but is delicious, an old-fashioned lounge with basic services. 7,5

Facilities: Blind gym in the basement that does the job, but nothing more. 7

Service and attention: An overall good experience, especially in the restaurant, spoiled at check-out 7

Application of the loyalty program: recognition of the customer at check-in, minimalist upgrade but I think there was no room available to do better. 8

Experience for money :At 150 euros a night in a city known for its low prices, it’s very average. 6
