Moxy Amiens: very pleasant, close to the train station and town center

Located next to the train station, Moxy Amiens offers good quality at affordable prices for those who appreciate the brand’s codes.

I didn’t have much choice for this trip, this Moxy being the only Marriott hotel in the city. I really like this “limited service” brand and its offbeat codes, which is perfectly suited to this type of trip where I spend more time sightseeing than enjoying the hotel, and where I don’t need to take my meals at the hotel.

At the bottom of the page you’ll find a summary of articles about this stay in Amiens.

Booking

I booked a Cosy room (standard) for 85 euros per night. Given that there are only two types of room in this hotel (Cosy and Family), there’s no need to expect any kind of upgrade.

Location of the hotel

It is located on the side of the station.

You can get there directly from a passageway that crosses the station, but it seems that the phone’s GPS ignores this passageway and makes you take an unnecessary detour (which happened to me). Without the detour, it’s only 3 minutes from the station.

However, this internal passageway is closed at night.

The hotel is about ten minutes’ walk from the cathedral, fifteen at the most, and although it’s a little out of the way, it’s not a problem given the very modest size of the center. The only negative point is that it doesn’t offer the same view as some hotels in the historic center.

Arrival and check-in

I arrive by train from Paris (a long hour’s journey) and reach the hotel by following my GPS, so with a useless detour.

The hotel is of recent construction and looks like …. a Moxy.

I get in and go to reception. The welcome is warm but…my room isn’t ready. I’m invited to wait ten minutes in the lobby.

No surprises here: the design is totally in line with the brand’s codes.

I go back to reception and they tell me my room is ready. The protocol of the loyalty program is totally respected, I’m thanked for my loyalty and given a voucher for a welcome cocktail which I’ll finally have in the evening.

The Cosy Room

I head to my room. Once you’ve seen a Moxy, you’ve seen (almost) all of them, and this one is no exception.

In fact, it’s rather large for a standard room in this chain.

The bedding lacks the comfort of a superior hotel, but will do the job perfectly for two nights. Note the Moxy tone on the pillows.

There’s a little bench next to the bed, which I’ll use more to…put my suitcase than to sit on.

The bedroom has a large TV and a mock-desk.

Not very comfortable, especially with the spartan footstool, which was the only way to sit. Enough to deal with a few e-mails, but not enough for anyone who intends to work at all. But this is Moxy, so you know what to expect.

The bathroom is a decent size, with a single-bowl sink and shower.

I’d say the same thing about this room as I’d say about any other moxy: pretty, sober and it does the job. Everything is hyper-standardized with nothing superfluous, but that’s the price you have to pay to…pay less than a more premium hotel.

And we finish with the visit in video.

Bar and restaurant

Moxys don’t have restaurants, but rather a light snack service served at the bar and in the large living area that surrounds it and doubles as a coworking space.

I’ll stop by the bar for a quick aperitif and then on my way home from the restaurant.

Very friendly staff, but they should be looking more at the customers to see if they need anything, instead of chatting to each other without bothering about their surroundings.

There’s also a “mini market” where you can buy drinks and snacks and take them back to your room.

Facilities

No gym, no pool.

Bottom line

A very pretty, lively and friendly hotel, very well placed to visit the city for those who don’t need a full-service hotel.
