In early spring, I got the idea of visiting Amiens. Here’s how it all came about.
Choice of the destination
I wanted a destination close to Paris, and Amiens had it all. A city renowned for its cathedral, but where I’ll also discover a few other places of interest worth a visit.
Transportation
Amiens is served from Paris by TER Hauts de France trains (regional trains) in just over an hour, and costs around 50 euros round-trip if you book at the last minute.
Not the most exhilarating trip, but it’s damn convenient.
Accommodation
Not much choice: there’s only one Marriott in Amiens: the Moxy.
Located right next to the train station and just a few minutes from the cathedral, it did the job perfectly, and what’s more, at that time Marriott launched a promotion which meant that all nights counted double towards my status renewal, so it was a period when I travelled a lot to take advantage of it.
Catering
I identified two local restaurants that seemed to meet my criteria: quality, superior cuisine at affordable prices: l’Ail des Ours and Les Orfèvres.
Which gives us this series of articles about this stay.
