A short picturesque excursion in parallel to our stay in Budapest, with a round trip by train to visit my wife’s family in Hajdúszoboszló, near Debrecen, the second largest city in Hungary.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
Experience in the station
We arrive at Nyugati station from the Budapest Marriott using Bolt. Note that Uber remains prohibited in Budapest and Bolt uses licensed cabs.
10 minutes of travel, we arrive about 30 minutes before the departure of our train and, as often in Europe, the departure track is already displayed. This will be track 13.
The station is in the final stages of renovation and the marquee is absolutely stunning.
Some interesting trains are parked, including a superb EC with Czech and Slovenian cars.
Shops are available before departure.
Cabin
Our train is quite short, only 6 cars this morning. Our first class car is the only one in the train, and is located at the head of the train.
The cabin is rather old school, even if some successive renovations are visible with some power outlets, screens for tracking the course.
Service
No particular service in this train, not even a bar or restaurant car.
Arrival and disembarkation
We arrive a few minutes late in Hajdúszoboszló, without any particular consequence.
Bottom line
A rather pleasant journey.
