The first A350 in ITA livery leaves the Airbus factory

The A350 will be the flagship of the new ITA, the successor to Alitalia, and the very first aircraft for the transalpine airline has just rolled off the Airbus production line.

Like Alitalia, it retains the colors of the Italian flag on the tail, but its livery is completely blue, in reference to Italian unity, like the jerseys worn by Italian national sports teams.

It didn’t escape the attention of spotters:

This is the first in a series of 8 A350s to join its fleet of 55 aircraft: 18 Airbus A319s, 30 Airbus A320s and 7 Airbus A330s.

Again in reference to sport, ITA offers its fans the chance to choose the name of its aircraft from a list of famous sportsmen and women: this A350 is named after Marcello Lippi, the famous Italian footballer and coach.

For the record, this aircraft was originally destined for Hong Kong Airlines, which was unable to take delivery due to the COVID crisis that hit it as hard as Cathay Pacific.

We still don’t know who will take over ITA in the coming months, but at least we know what its aircraft will look like. Something tells us it would be a good idea if the Skyteam logo were an easily replaceable sticker…
