Le Méridien Étoile, Paris: Basic and soulless

As part of a business trip to Paris, I booked a room at Le Méridien Étoile, a hotel I know well from having been my Paris headquarters when I lived in Montpellier.

Booking

I booked this hotel almost a month before my arrival, when I was organizing my travel plans for September 2021.

The hotel was closed for 18 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet its location makes it an ultra-practical base given the location of my office.

So here I go for less than €150 a night.

Arrival

After my British Airways flight from London, I arrive at the hotel at around 6pm.

As the Boulevard Gouvion Saint-Cyr is under construction, entrance is via a side door near the Hyatt Regency. It is therefore quite difficult to access.

A doorman offers to take care of my luggage, but I decline.

After presenting my health pass, I proceed to check-in.

No mention whatsoever of an upgrade, but I was given a perfunctory thank you for my loyalty before being handed my key, breakfast vouchers and an invitation to the bar to enjoy the services of the LM Lounge, currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Room

My room was on the 9th and top floor of the property.

Even though I didn’t get a big upgrade, it’s a room three categories above the standard room I booked, even though it’s the same size. Roughly speaking, the decor is supposed to be more elegant and there are bathrobes. Well…

The entrance is equipped with large closets and convenient cupboards.

There is a separate toilet and the bathroom is adjoining. It has a bath that doubles as a shower. As in all the brand’s hotels, the MALIN+GOETZ brand supplies the well-made toiletries.

Next comes the bedroom, with its comfortable king-size bed, small table and desk.

The view isn’t great, and the construction work is really unbearable.

Finally, a video tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel has a fitness room, which I will not use this time.

Food options

The hotel has a restaurant that I won’t be using, as well as a breakfast room behind the bar.

Breakfast service

Breakfast is served from 6:30am to 10:30am on weekdays.

Although buffets are back, most of them are individual containers.

The elements I choose will be excellent. However, there’s no espresso machine available, only filter coffee. I didn’t ask, I was in a hurry.

Departure

Departure formalities were carried out very quickly, directly from the application. I’ll receive the final invoice a few minutes later.

Bottom line

A fairly average stay, with no particular faults but no satisfaction either. A vague impression that everyone in this hotel has given up. It feels more like a Novotel in Nevers than a Le Meridien.
