While the opening of the new lounge in terminal 2F at Paris Charles-de-Gaulle is over a month behind schedule, the French airline yesterday announced its completely redesigned lounge at Montreal-Trudeau airport.

A new Air France lounge… But now operated by Plaza Premium
Yesterday, “Air France has opened the doors of its completely redesigned lounge at Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. In association with the Plaza Premium Group, the airline now offers its Business and Flying Blue Elite Plus customers a vast, warm and elegant space, highlighting the art of French hospitality and travel.

Located on the terminal’s international pier, this 490m² lounge has a seating capacity of 149. Bathed in light, it is bordered by a large bay window offering a view of the runways, the airline’s aircraft and one of the slopes of Mount Royal overlooking the city of Montreal.

Customers are greeted by Plaza Premium Group agents. Automatic eligibility kiosks are also available for greater fluidity.

They then enter the lounge’s main area, where numerous armchairs and wide benches allow everyone to relax, dine or work in comfort. A shared work area is also available. Free WiFi and numerous USB sockets are available to all.

Flying Blue Ultimate customers have a more confidential area with large sofas and armchairs to make them feel at home.”

The press release does not say whether the lounge’s management is Plaza Premium. If this is the case, we can expect access eligibility to be extended to American Express Platinum and Centurion members, for example.

Catering finally improved
“At the heart of the lounge , a vast space offers catering centered around French cuisine. A self-service buffet offers hot and cold, savoury and sweet dishes, to meet everyone’s expectations throughout the day”. It can’t really be any worse than before, the offer was reduced to its simplest form!

As proposed at Washington-Dulles and New-York JFK, “The lounge will feature a ‘Night Service’ area, with a new dedicated catering offer, in a hushed atmosphere. This service anticipates the desire to rest of Business customers traveling between Montreal and Paris on the last evening flight. Customers wishing to do so will always have the freedom to eat again during the flight.”

Limited access hours
“The Air France lounge in Montreal is open every day from 2pm to 10pm for Air France and KLM customers. Access is free for Business and Flying Blue Elite Plus customers. Customers traveling in Economy or Premium Economy cabins, can purchase lounge access subject to availability.”

Bottom line
No one knows what will become of this lounge after the pandemic. In any case, let’s see the glass half-full: the evolution of Air France decoration is going in the right direction!
