On Wednesday, March 1, 2017, Air France inaugurated its new lounge in Terminal 2G at Paris Charles-de-Gaulle Airport.
Long neglected by business travelerswhose origin or destination is Paris and nicknamed Guantanamo by frequent travelers, this terminal is once again accessible.
TravelGuys was invited to the theoretically internal inauguration ceremony, even before the press.
A co-construction approach with clients
For the first time on such an important project, the clients were involved from day onein the design of this lounge. As a member of the referrer client club, we were consulted half a dozen times on the location, decoration and culinary concepts that would be used in the lounge.
Location and access
The lounge is therefore located in terminal 2G of Paris Charles-de-Gaulle airport, the most remote of the hub.
Please note that at CDG, it is not possible to go from terminal to terminal after security clearance: you will only be able to access this lounge if your flight actually leaves from that terminal.
The admission requirements are the same as for the other Air France lounges: you must be SkyTeam Elite Plus(which includes Gold, Platinum and Ultimate Flying Blue statuses ) or travel in Business Class, and be departing on a Skyteam international flight(although this rule is relaxed in AF lounges).
The lounge itself is located in the terminal’s departure lounge, to the right of the escalators after security.
Visit of the lounge
The entrance to the lounge is very elegant, mixing dark colors and light wood.
In addition to humanized reception desks, kiosks that allow you toscan your boarding pass yourselfwill make traffic flow more smoothly.
The Air France logo and the signature comma are very well highlighted on the blue background.
The lounge is very elegant, like a design lounge or a nordic country lounge.
The press is obviously available at the entrance.
The spaces are then arranged in a certain progression towards calm.
As soon as you enter, you can lounge in one of the comfortable armchairs similar to those used in the lounges in Hall 2 at Orly-Ouest or Bordeaux, for example.
A first seated dining area is available, separated by a partition that once again features the signature comma.
The kitchen, future fresh bakery space, is open to the room.
Champagne was provided (exceptionally) for the inauguration ceremony.
Illy, the lounge’s new sponsor, offers an advanced coffee machine, with blends reminiscent of a famous green lady’s brand.
One of the great assets of this lounge, beyond the almost perfect design, is its luminosity and the exceptional view it offers on the parking points of the T2G and on the runways of the southern doublet of CDG.
A second restaurant space, a little quieter, follows the codes of trendy Parisian brasseries.
The catering offer proposed on this day wasrepresentative of the offer that will be in place from the next day, the day the lounge opens to the general public.
The cold offer is composed of several very balanced canapés.
By summer, the lounge will have a baker on duty at all times, offering hot pastries at all times, as well as hot dishes in the evening. We could not discover this offer for the moment.
Amenities available upon entering the lounge
From the entrance, on the left, the toilets are now available withouthaving to leave the lounge.
For both men and women, a shower is available.
The individualshower area is huge (probably due to accessibility standards) and has a closet, as well as full toilet facilities
The rest of the bathroom is also very elegant:
Conclusion
This lounge, 15 times larger than the old one, is a real success and bodes well for the renovation and construction of future lounges, especially in Terminal 2F and 2E-L.
