After the Starfish Bloo I tested the Fire, the 2nd restaurant of W Bali.
The concept
The Fire is a meat restaurant, a steakhouse. It’s as simple as that.
The setting
The Fire is on the ground floor, near the pool. It consists of a large indoor room and an open or closed terrace depending on the weather.
The large room offers large volumes with spaced tables and a very high ceiling.
In keeping with the name of the property, the tones as orange as those of the Starfish Bloo are blue.
The menu
Starters
Vegetables and fish
Desserts and cheeses
Beef
Other dishes and wok dishes
The meals
I will start with a house cocktail prepared in front of me at the table.
It was like a grog….I liked it.
As an appetizer I will take the beef cheek.
The presentation is very beautiful. It’s thin, not too fatty or liquid. It’s a bit caramelized/spicy and tastes great.
Next is the 200g Wagyu. But before being served, I am given the choice of knife.
No surprise: the meat is fine and tender. The opposite would have been an issue…
With that I’ll have a Mac&Chesse on the side.
Well, it’s not particularly fine and it’s far from being the best I’ve had, but it’s been so long since I’ve had one!
For dessert I’ll go for the “Mount Agung”, in reference to a local volcano. The preparation is spectacular.
But the result will not match the show. Good but nothing special.
And a cognac as a digestive. This is the first time I’ve seen a glass of cognac on top of a glass of hot water. In general it is rather ice!
In the end a very decent dinner without anything exceptional either.
The atmosphere
It was a slow time of year and the restaurant was far from full. It is easy to imagine it being lively and “trendy” at other times of the year, but here it was very quiet. This was not to my displeasure either.
The service
The welcome was excellent. When I give my room number the flight attendant sees my status in the loyalty program and tells me that for this reason she will try to find me a very good table. Not complicated, though, considering how crowded the place was. But it’s always nice.
For the rest, fast and smiling service but without much interaction with the staff.
Bottom line
The Fire is a good steakhouse with a more sophisticated cuisine than most restaurants of its kind. The setting is quite nice but sounds empty when it is not very full and the staff is efficient and friendly.
A good restaurant that does not disappoint but that, personally, does not inspire me more than that.
