For my first evening in Seville I decided to eat typical food, which is not very complicated in Spain. That’s how I found the Orangier – Desayunos & Tapas restaurant, a simple restaurant but obviously quite popular among the locals.
The restaurant is quite out of the way but it was close to my hotel of the day.
The concept
No fuss here, this is a good old fashioned restaurant with local dishes without any frills. You come here for the simplicity, the conviviality and the prices.
The setting
As I said, it’s a small restaurant that doesn’t look like much from the outside.
Inside, it feels like a small popular inn, in the good sense of the term.
The menu
It is posted on the wall!
It’s simple, local and without fuss!
Le meal
Following the advice of the waiter I will not take a starter to have enough space in the stomach for the speciality of the place, the “codillo” (or pork hock).
As soon as my order is taken, I am brought bread. Simple…and packaged. It looks industrial but it is eatable.
I’ll take red wine by the glass, trusting the waiter. The glass arrives quickly, well filled. I’ll have another one during dinner.
Then they bring me a “speciality” visibly offered to all at the beginning of the meal. Surprising visual but it quite good.
So far, nothing special or exceptional apart from the friendliness of the staff.
The “codillo” arrives after a long wait.
Now we’re getting to the heart of the matter. It’s hearty and very well presented.
The dish is a pleasure to eat, the meat is very tasty and cooked simply. I don’t regret my choice of not taking a starter. It’s hearty without being too much, it’s simple, well cooked, I love it.
For the desserts, I tell myself that it must be the kind of place that puts everything in the freshness of the products used for the dishes and that in return plays the industrial card for the bread and the desserts, everything that is not the heart of its offer.
And there, surprise, I am told that if there are only two desserts on the menu it is precisely because they are home made.
I’m going for the tiramisu.
I confirm it is homemade.
And very good.
The atmosphere
Very nice and friendly. The music and the noise of the conversations make the room quite noisy but it goes with the concept of the place.
The service
The service is really excellent. On arrival the waiter asks me about my tastes, he tries to understand what would suit me best…. very friendly, helpful and with good advice.
Bottom line
All this for a 20 euros dinner, I am more than satisfied. A restaurant that I recommend for those who are looking for authenticity, local and like a relaxed atmosphere.
It seems that the place is also very famous for its tapas.
