A long haul flight made me arrive at Heathrow at the end of the day to leave for Paris the next morning, so I had to spend a night at Heathrow. After having experienced the Sheraton Skyline during a previous trip I decide to try the second Sheraton of the London airport. Its bad reputation had reached my ears but since it had just been renovated and was less expensive than the first one I thought I should give the product a chance.
Arrival at the hotel
Arriving at Terminal 3, the hotel is directly served by a Hotel Hoppa shuttle line. If there was a renovation it only concerns the interior of the property: the exterior looks worn and dated.
The lobby is low-ceilinged and the reception area is long like a hallway. Not very pleasant.
A sloppy check-in
Having done my mobile check-in on the Spg application I just have to go to the reception to get my key. A key that was practically thrown in my face in defiance of all reception protocol.
They won’t tell me I’ve been upgraded from standard to club, or if there’s a club lounge or not, or where it is (I won’t see it indicated anywhere)….a very sloppy procedure.
A renovated club room
I venture into the long, long corridors of the hotel to reach my room. It’s a little less gloomy than the reception.
A little decoration in the common parts of the ground floor.
On the floors it is much better.
I finally arrive in my room.
A renovated room, clean, with nothing special to report for good or bad.
Bar et restaurant
Having restored me more than well in flight I will pass in front of the restaurant of the hotel without stopping there.
I’ll just have a drink at the bar. The setting is a bit warmer than what I’ve seen so far and the waiter is friendly (on the other hand it was impossible to do worse than his colleague at the reception).
Two beers later back to my room. On the way I noticed that the “business” area was a bit more friendly than the rest.
Minimalist gym
Small sports session the next day in the morning. Not too much space for anyone using anything other than machines.
No cup to drink a glass of water.
In short, I quickly retreat to pack my suitcase and leave for the airport.
Check-out
I’ll do my check-out on the mobile app so I don’t have to go through the front desk again. I will take there again the Hotel Hoppa to reach the terminal. It is worth noting that the shuttle service connects the Sheraton to Terminal 3. Leaving from terminal 4 I had to take the subway between terminals 3 and 4.
Bottom line: Sheraton Heathrow, an experience to forget
In my opinion, there is little chance that this hotel will remain under the Sheraton flag with the announced facelift of the brand. A legacy of a bygone era, it offers a mediocre experience in a property without much personality. Even at 80 pounds it’s way too expensive. For 30 pounds less go to the Moxy, it’s nothing like that!
