Social networks are good, overusing them sucks. Easier said than done. Everyone promises to take a break, to detox for a weekend, but most of the time the good resolutions remain unfulfilled.
For those looking for extrinsic motivation, the Bellora Hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden, may have just what you need.
On February 14, it offers a room called the “Check Out Suite” which rate per night varies depending on your use of internet and social networks. If you do not use them the night will be free. Then the price increases according to your use until it reaches the “normal” rate of the room.
A lamp changes color according to the use of the wifi until becoming red when the maximum showing is reached.
This lamp, the Skärmfri Lamp (for “without screen”) was developed by Länsförsäkringar Gothenburg,an insurance company that works to improve “digital health”.
It is obviously a “one shot”. It is obvious that such an operation has above all a promotional goal for the device but we would have liked it to be a little more long-term.
As for the chosen date….not sure that Valentine’s Day is the most relevant to test the addiction to screens. Or maybe it’s just the right date to try to get away from it.
