A few vacations to take a break in the middle of the year, and here I am in Japan, the country of my teenage dreams, for a big week of exploration. The flights will remain uninteresting for this trip: a classic long-haul Economy Class on Air France, with nevertheless the superb Haneda International Airport at the arrival.
Booking
The reservation was made several months in advance, using the corporate code of my company (on this subject, I advise you this old article of TravelGuys, still current), for ¥23,000 the night, a rather high rate but in the low average for Tokyo. Many friends advised me to go to New Otani, but SPG qualification was a priority this time as it looked tough in 2016.
I made the reservation through the SPG website, as usual.
Arrival
Having arrived by the evening flight to Haneda, I arrived before 7:30 pm at the hotel, after ultra-fast immigration and customs formalities and a very pleasant Uber ride.
At check-in, there is a priority line for Gold and Platinum members, but courtesy led me not to use it.
The formalities were extremely simple, passport and credit card. The “manual” card print, with a manual machine, is very vintage!
I was upgraded to a deluxe room with king size bed, and access to the Club Lounge.
Room
The room, located on the 8th floor of the hotel, was nothing special. I was supposedly upgraded to a Deluxe room, but it doesn’t show.
In any case, the extra bed was present, and all the equipment was in working order.
The decoration, however, is not very appealing
A little Japanese touch, but otherwise, it’s very Sheraton of the 80s, I understand the renovation in progress…
The bathroom is quite small but well equipped. The toilets, as usual in Japan, are equipped with small magic jets that ensure a perfect hygiene.
The view is quite nice from the room, especially at night.
Finally, a virtual tour of the room:
Catering – Club Lounge
As a Platinum member, I was able to access the Club Lounge at no charge for the 5 nights of my stay.
The club offers 4 services: breakfast from 7am to 10:30am, afternoon tea from 11am to 3pm, hors d’oeuvres from 6pm to 8pm and refreshments until 10pm.
The place is freshly renovated and very pleasant.
The breakfast offer is quite good, and the buffet is always well stocked. The coffee is just drinkable and the containers are not always suitable.
The offer of hors d’oeuvres is excellent, with hot and cold dishes, and an almost full bar… Only the champagne is missing!
Lobby and common facilities
The lobby is rather disconcertingly organized. If the entrance is rather majestic, it faces a bar with a rather limited menu… The reception is located on the right, with the concierge.
If the arrival and departure formalities are done standing, the concierge services are done seated.
The decoration also dates from the 80s. To be improved quickly!
The fitness room, also in the style of the 80s, is very well equipped. Access is offered to Platinum members but not to others, beware!
The Olympic pool is very pleasant for swimming addicts.
Departure
The departure formalities were simple: absolutely correct invoice, charming staff!
Conclusion
A very good stay in this hotel, but apart from the access to the club lounge and the pool, no advantage to be Platinum. Maybe because of the extra bed?
