For this short stay of only one night before my departure for Luang Prabang, I chose to stay at the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit. It is one of the two Sofitel of Bangkok the other being the Sofitel So already presented on the site by Bertrand.
The hotel, as its name suggests, is located on Sukhumvit Road, one of Bangkok’s main thoroughfares on the east side of the city. It is crossed by both the Subway and the Skytrain, of which the hotel is a few steps away. There are many cabs and tuk tuks on Sukhumvit road making it very easy to get around.
It is a very lively neighborhood by day and night and very commercial. There is a city market until the evening, many hotels, massage parlors, tailors, restaurants, more or less recommendable bars, and shopping centers.
Staying only one night I had initially booked a standard room but I had received and accepted an offer to upgrade to a Club Millésime roomfor a small fee.
My China Eastern Airlines flight from Shanghai arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport and I went to the hotel by cab, making sure that the meter was turned on!
The 345-room hotel is located in a modern tower and is accessed directly from Sukhumvit road.
The lobby is large and bright but a too flashy to my taste! The welcome is cordial and the check-in will be very fast and friendly.
The room
I go directly to my room which is very large (about 40 m2) and whose decoration is neat. It has two large windows, each offering a different view of Bangkok which, like New York, never sleeps.
A large comfortable Sofitel Mybed double bed, a modern desk, a sofa, an armchair and a chest of drawers compose the furniture. A television and a Bose system are available. The lighting is neat and gives a relaxing atmosphere to this space.
Some fruits are placed on a nice coffee table
A very nice espresso machine is also available but I admit that it would take me a little while to get it working the next morning!
The bathroom is very large with separate bath and shower.
This time Hermès was chosen for the toiletries. A French signature that I appreciate.
Club Millésime
Of course, the club room gives access to the Club Millésime lounges located on the upper floors of the hotel. This one is huge and is composed of many areas all decorated in a contemporary style. Depending on the time of day, you can have breakfast, an aperitif or a snack, and of course you can meet friends, read a book or even work.
It is there that I will take my breakfast which is very complete and very good.
It is presented in the form of a buffet, the hot dishes being chosen from the menu and brought to the table.
Services provided
In terms of relaxation, the hotel offers an outdoor pool, a Spa and a huge and well-equipped gym which I will take advantage of. A coach is present in the gym and will spontaneously help me with the machines I don’t know. In the evening, the pool bar is mainly frequented by Thai people who come to drink cocktails while listening to a DJ.
Conclusion
The Sofitel is a modern hotel with all the necessary facilities for a good business or leisure stay. The common areas tend to be always full of people so Club Millésime is a haven of peace to enjoy. The welcome is pleasant but the size of the property makes it more impersonal than in other hotels. It doesn’t have the charm of the other hotels I know in Bangkok (Peninsula and Sukhothai) but offers a good value for money and guarantees a pleasant stay.
